A/N - This chapter is based on the song 'All I Know So Far' by P!nk, and it is honestly one of those songs that makes me pretty emotional any time I listen to it, so I thought I'd see if I could turn those emotions into a little something. I think I accidentally made Steve and Reader into Wanda's surrogate parents? I hope you all enjoy it.

You had known that Wanda would struggle with going on the run. She had been blaming herself for everything that had happened between Steve and Tony from the moment it had started, and it was only bound to get worse the harder your lifestyle got. For a while, you had been hesitant to interfere. Wanda was a grown woman; a young one, sure, but someone capable of coming to you if she wanted your advice. So, you'd forced yourself to give her the space you thought she deserved, even if it was playing on your mind 24/7.

It wasn't until the third week of travelling that you'd cracked slightly. Wanda looked exhausted. Completely and utterly broken and about ready to give up running altogether. She was sitting slumped against the headboard of the motel bed she'd be sleeping in that night, dark circles hanging under her eyes as she released a soft sigh. And suddenly, you couldn't help yourself. You moved across the room, climbing up onto the bed beside her and grabbing her hand in yours, linking your fingers together and offering her a small smile.

Her brows furrowed as she glanced up at you, not used to the affection that you often reserved for Steve.

"You know, I wish someone had told me that the bad times come and go. They aren't always there, but when they do come, you can be certain they won't last forever either." You shrugged slightly. "And when I was your age, I wish I'd had someone to tell me that they would be there when those bad times were getting really damn bad," you added softly, nudging her with your elbow. "So, I will be here at your side. When life is good, and when it's bad, and even when the world seems like it's about to end."

Wanda's lips twitched into a half smile at your comment, a small sniffle slipping out of her. And finally, she nodded, leaning in to rest her head on your shoulder and squeezing your hand in hers.

"I want you to promise me something," you hummed again, watching as she lifted her head to look at you properly. "Don't let those people out there change how you feel about yourself. You are one of the strongest people I know, and I don't want them to take that from you."

She held her free hand out to you, her pinky extended. "Promise," she uttered, offering you a smile that you hadn't seen since you had first gone on the run.

You linked your finger with hers, a happy little chuckle slipping free from you as she slipped back into her comfortable position, slumped into your side.  Your eyes finally flicked over to the doorway, finding Steve leaning against the wall already watching you. In all honesty, he had seen how worried you had been about Wanda. You'd loved her from the moment she had joined the term, so similar to your younger self that you couldn't help but feel connected, and now that she was struggling you were making yourself sick with the concern.

Steve offered up a sweet smile before pushing off of the wall and collapsing onto the foot of the bed, settling onto his back, his head tilted towards the two of you.

"Has Y/N ever told you about when we first met?"

"Steve," you hummed out a warning, as Wanda shook her head.

"I was looking for this Hydra agent in Washington, but he got the drop on me. And whilst he was beating the crap out of me, I looked over at the door and saw this woman standing there. Thought I must've been dying or something, saw an angel coming to get me-"

"Steven," you chastised again, kicking at him slightly as Wanda chuckled beside you.

"Turns out, Y/N was on her own little mission, looking for the same guy as me. So, my little renegade had to come to my rescue. She had this guy on the ground, pinned and cuffed before I even knew what was happening, and the second I heard her speak I knew I was going to marry her."

You couldn't help but smile at his little story. Steve was pretty good at blending in with other people your age, but when it came to you he became the cheesiest guy in the world. It was like the 40s came springing out of him the moment he thought about you.

"Not sure she was so certain, but I ended up persuading her to let me take her out. A little thank you for keeping me alive."

He paused for a moment, a sweet smile plastered onto his face, and you file your heart somersaulting in your chest. "He was so sweet that I ended up agreeing to another date before we'd even finished our starters," you hummed. "Pretty sure I knew I was in love with him by the time we were ordering dessert."

Steve reached up, his hand resting on the only part of you he could get to, his thumb rubbing a gentle circle against the skin of your ankle. "After that we made it official pretty quickly. And then a couple of months later, I asked her to marry me, and she's been keeping me out of trouble ever since."

"People thought we were mad, you know?" you uttered, shaking your head slightly. "We hadn't even known each other for a year before we got married, and Tony thought we'd completely lost our minds." You paused for a moment. "But at the end of the day,  when you spend your entire life trying to please everyone else, sometimes you've got to be a little bit selfish and do what works for you instead. If it was going to be a mistake, it was a mistake we were willing to make together."

Wanda was smiling when you finally glanced up at her again. "It worked for you guys," she hummed. "You're still together."

"We know it wouldn't have been right for everyone, but I was right for us," Steve started again. "There's no rule book for this stuff, everyone's different."

"And God, life would be so boring if we weren't," you added with a small chuckle, gripping Wanda's hand a little tighter in yours. "You should be proud of the stuff that makes you different, because it makes you the person that you are, and that person is so wonderful."

Wanda leant in again, her head pressing into your shoulder as she wrapped her free arm around you in an awkwardly-angled hug. "Thank you."

You shifted up onto your knees, pulling her into a proper hug. "You're welcome, Sweetheart," you hummed out. "You are going to do so much, and I can't wait to watch you conquer everything the world throws at you."
