A/N - This chapter is a follow up to another part, so please, go and read that first. It was slightly inspired by the song Invincible by Muse.

Shuffling through the airport had been tedious, stuck behind an older couple who had convinced themselves that they must have forgotten something somewhere along the way, pausing every few steps to double-check for their keys and phones and wallets and passports. By the time you'd made it out into the arrivals area, you were getting pretty close to throwing an all-out tantrum in the middle of the damn airport. But then, the hallway had opened up into a spacious waiting area, and your body had relaxed as you'd spotted Steve waiting for you, his eyes running over each of the passengers who walked through the door.

You waved as his eyes found you, a small smile pulling at his lips when you did a little half jog towards him, pulling him into a tight hug.

"Told you so," you cried out, feeling him relax into your embrace.

"Told me so?"

You chuckled as you pulled back slightly, grinning up at him. "I told you that when I eventually came to New York, you'd be here waiting to greet me," you pressed on. "And clearly, I was right, wasn't I?"

Steve tried to bite back the smile that came from just being in your presence. In all fairness, over the last couple of years, you'd become close, and it only made sense for him to be happy to see you. After all, he'd visited you plenty of times, and now, here you were, taking a huge step to come and visit him instead.

"You know? I'm pretty sure it doesn't count as an 'I told you so' if the person you're telling already agreed that it would happen. At that point, I think it's just good planning," he teased, immediately taking your duffel bag, from where you'd dropped it in your hurry to embrace him, and hoisting it up onto his shoulder. "Come on," he told you, throwing his other arm around your shoulders and steering you towards the exit. "Car's parked up out front."

It was silly, really. The butterflies that came to your stomach when he touched you, even when it was as innocent as this, were enough to send your mind into overdrive. It didn't matter that you already knew far more about the relationship that would form between you than you should. It didn't matter that you knew that by the time the world reset and everyone came back from the blip, you would already be married. None of it mattered at all. He still gave you that nervous feeling and in all honesty, you were happy about it. You'd lost so much because of what you could see in the future. You'd lost the chance to enjoy the life you were living because you were so caught up in what was coming next. But with Steve, you knew everything that was coming and you were still right there in the moment, loving every second.

"Hey," he hummed, pulling you a little closer when you glanced up at him, all doe-eyed and confused. "What's going on in that head of yours?"

You smiled slightly at the question, shrugging as he directed you towards his car. "Absolutely nothing," you murmured, listening out for the chuckle you had grown so fond of since he had shown up on your doorstep asking for your help.

Always the gentleman, he opened your door for you when you reached the car, holding it in place as you settled into your seat. "It's so weird having you here, getting into my car," he hummed, hesitating next to you for a moment. "I'm so used to coming to you-" his words trailed off. "I like this," he added, moving away just enough to shut the door and put your bag in the backseat.

Your stomach was squeezing at his comments, as he rounded the car and climbed into the driver's seat. You kept your eyes fixed forwards whilst he backed out of the parking space, getting you both on the road, and only then did you risk a glance in his direction.
