A/N - This chapter was requested by user: @Serene_peach97. I ended up using 'Little Aphrodite' by Frank Turner for a little bit of inspiration on this one. I hope you all enjoy it.

You could barely breathe as you rushed through the halls, attempting to make sense of the directions the kind receptionist at the hospital entrance had given you. What you're going to need to do is go straight through these double doors, and then take the first left. Follow that down to the next double doors, but don't go through, you need to take a right there and then you'll come to a vending machine. Go past those and take your first right, and then you should be in the right place, sweetie. It had been so kind of her to help, but you'd forgotten the instructions as soon as you passed the first set of doors, and now you were just walking in the hopes of ending up in the right place by accident, desperate to get to Steve as soon as you could manage. And it felt like you'd been wandering forever.

It was only when you spotted Sharon sitting on one of the little rows of seats that you'd finally calmed slightly. This had to be the right place.

Her head shot up as you approached, looking all flustered as you attempted a half-hearted smile as a greeting.

"How's he doing?"

She offered up an awkward smile. "He seems a little confused. He keeps saying he needs to get back to the apartment, but I thought you guys had moved a couple of months back-"

You nodded slightly. "But he's okay? Just a little dazed?"

"He'll live," she agreed softly. "You should go in for a little while before the doctors come and start running more tests," she pressed on, rubbing your elbow in a soothing gesture. In all honesty, you'd always liked Sharon, from the moment you'd met through work, and without her inviting you to one of Stark's parties, you never would have met Steve in the first place. She'd been a good friend through the years, and even now she was here showing her support.

You pushed through the door into Steve's room with a soft smile on your lips, taking his cuts and bruises as calmly as you could manage. "Hey," you hummed, watching as he offered up what looked like a combination of a smile and a wince. "How're you feeling?"

"Like I'm wasting a lot of time just sitting here waiting to be discharged," he uttered, shifting uncomfortably on the bed and causing you to snort.

"The doctors are just being cautious. They want to make sure you're okay before they send you home-"

"Yeah, that's what the other nurse said," he interrupted, shaking his head slightly. "Are you here to do more tests?"

Your smile faded at his comment, your brow knitting together in confusion. "No, Sharon called me-"

"Oh, are you a friend of Sharon's?"

You felt as though your stomach was being squeezed so tightly that it might pop, your heart dropping as you stared at him in disbelief. "That's not funny, Steve," you bit out.

Even he looked a little confused now, his head tilting to the side as he watched you. "Did I say something to upset you? Sometimes I forget that everything's changed since my day, I'm still learning what I can and can't say-"

"Steve quit being so weird," you interrupted, giving him the firmest look you could manage; the look your friends had always affectionately called your Mom-face.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry if Sharon's introduced us before or something. I'm not great at remembering faces." Your hand lifted, fiddling with the engagement ring he'd given you less than a year ago, and your lip began to quiver. Steve suddenly looked very lost, his eyes widening and his mouth opening and closing in a panic. "Please don't cry. Sharon'll kill me if she finds out I upset one of her friends."
