A/N - Happy Holidays! I am finally starting to get into the Christmas spirit, so here's a little Christmas-themed special for you, inspired by the song 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' by The Jackson 5. It's a little short because I've been working a ton in the run-up to the holidays, but I hope you all enjoy it!
There was nothing more time consuming and stressful than getting a hyperactive child to bed on Christmas Eve. Sure, your husband had fought Nazi's and terrorists and aliens, but your four-year-old daughter was far harder to wrangle, you were certain of it.
Bucky had looked exhausted when he'd finally returned to the living room, his smile coming back full watt when he'd found you in the middle of the floor, half-watching some Christmas film he'd never seen before, and wrapping the last of the presents for under the tree.
He paused in the doorway, leaning against it as he watched you carefully. The lights on the tree were twinkling softly, and the glow they were throwing out made you look even more beautiful than usual. God, he'd gotten lucky when you'd made the terrible decision to fall in love with him.
Your head popped up to look at him when he snorted at his own thoughts, a bright smile pulling at your lips.
"What took you so long?" you teased softly, watching as he pushed away from his perch to join you on the floor.
"She needed some convincing that Santa would definitely come tonight. I had to show her that we had the right date on my phone three times before she was certain." He paused for a moment as he sprawled himself out beside you. "And she had to make sure her stocking was in the perfect spot so that he could get to it without too much trouble."
You chuckled, grabbing the Santa hat from your bag of Christmas Eve goodies and dropping it into his lap. "Well, you'll be playing Santa tonight. I move too loudly; she almost caught me last year."
He snorted as he pulled the hat onto his head. "What do you think, Baby?"
"Mr Claus, I'm a married woman," you started, your hand on your chest in faux shock.
"Oh yeah?" he pressed, watching as you nodded slightly. "And where is this husband of yours, Princess?"
You hesitated for a moment, attempting to hold back a peel of laughter that wanted to burst free. "He's working late."
"On Christmas Eve? What an asshole-"
"Bucky," you yelped, your eyes widening slightly. "Santa doesn't say words like that."
He snorted with laughter, leaning in to press a quick kiss to your lips. "Baby, he doesn't flirt with married women, either. Pretty sure he'd have to put himself on the naughty list if he started cheating on Mrs Claus."
You wrinkled your nose up slightly, giving a quick shrug. "I guess you have a point-"
"Mhmm," he hummed, pulling you into another kiss.
You chuckled when he released you, shaking your head slightly. "You know," you murmured, drawing out the words slightly. "This reminds me of a real popular Christmas song," you told him, letting him wrap his arms around you, the last of your jobs discarded for just a little while. "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus," you sang softly, taking his hand in yours and linking your fingers. "Underneath the mistletoe last night," you continued, feeling him press a kiss to the side of your head. "I should put it on-"
"No," he interrupted quickly. "Sounds good enough when you sing it," he hummed, drawing your joined hands up to his mouth to kiss your knuckles.
"This is real nice, Baby, but if I don't finish wrapping these presents, we're going to have one very disappointed little lady in the morning," you told him, shifting out of his grip slightly. "And you've got to finish off those cookies and milk, or she'll start to suspect that he never came."
He let out a soft grumble when he finally released you, shifting just enough to grab the plate and glass from in front of the fireplace. "I feel like I got the easier job here," he mumbled around a mouthful of cookie, his eyes focused on how your hands worked over the paper, forming it into something resembling an actual present.
"You did," you confirmed, rolling your eyes when he gave you a wide grin. "But just the idea of watching you struggle with a roll of tape the entire evening stressed me out, so I thought I'd take the fall."
"How about I make you a drink to make up for it?" You perked up slightly at his suggestion, nodding eagerly. "And then, when you get done, I can go and fill up the little lady's stocking real quick, and we can get cosy and watch a movie?"
"God," you all but whined. "That sounds incredible."
Bucky grinned, pushing up to his feet with a cookie in his mouth. "I'm going to stop distracting you. Get this all finished a little quicker," he told you, gesturing at the wrapping paper with his free hand.
