A/N - This chapter was requested by @Daisy_Doe_Dough. I ended up using 'The Family Madrigal' from the film Encanto for inspiration this time around because it's been stuck in my head from the moment I first heard it. I hope you all enjoy it.

You had been certain that, after such a long day of missions, the common area in the Avengers Facility would be completely empty. It was usually only busy on the days when no one had tired themselves out fighting and training and running from place to place putting out metaphorical fires.  But today, you had been startled when you had walked in to find the TV already playing and set on some kids film you'd never gotten around to seeing.

You hesitated in the doorway, watching the animated characters dance around the screen in bright flashes of colour for just a second before a child's head popped up over the back of the sofa, grinning at you with so much sweetness that you couldn't help but offer up a half-smile in return.

"Hi," she started, leaning her head on her hands as she watched you carefully. And then another head had appeared beside hers, and it all fell into place.

You had already known that Scott had a daughter, but you'd never been introduced before, and by the looks of it, she was pretty excited to get the chance to meet you.

"Hi," you answered softly, shifting awkwardly on the spot. "Sorry, I didn't realise you guys were in here."

Scott waved his hand dismissively at your comment. "No worries. You should come and watch with us."

You swallowed down the lump in your throat as you forced yourself further into the room, perching on the corner of the couch with the child's attention still focused on you instead of the screen.

"I'm Cassie," she hurried out, still grinning that wonky, gap-toothed smile at you.

Scott let out a dramatic sigh. "Where are my manners?" he cried out, shaking his head. "Y/N, this is Cassie. Cassie, this is Y/N-"

Cassie's eyes went wide as your name seemed to register. "Y/N?" You nodded. "You're a superhero, aren't you?"

You hesitated for a moment, glancing over at Scott in the hopes that he would dig you out of the hole you were currently being dug into.

"Yes, Sweetie, Y/N is a superhero-"

"Do you know all of the other superheroes?" Cassie interrupted and a snort of laughter slipped out of you.

"I do," you murmured, finally sinking back a little further into the couch, relaxing slightly.

"What ones?"

You paused for a moment, clearing your throat. "Where do you want me to start?" you hummed, pulling your legs up under yourself on the sofa.

"Sweetheart, Y/N wants to relax and watch the movie," Scott chastised softly, offering you an apologetic smile.

"Don't be silly," you corrected, turning your attention back to Cassie. "I guess Tony is the best place to start. He's Ironman, you know?" Cassie nodded enthusiastically, leaning forward to get as close to you as possible as she listened intently. "And then there's Steve, he's Captain America."

"He's the one with the shield, right?"

You nodded. "And then you've got Bruce-"

"Bruce doesn't sound like a superhero name," Cassie interrupted, drawing a surprised peel of laughter out of you.

"Well, he isn't a superhero when he's being Bruce. He usually does all his battles as the Hulk." Cassie's eyes were so wide that you couldn't help the grin pulling at your lips. "And you've got Nat, she's a super spy. And Clint, he's really good with a bow and arrow." You paused for a moment, trying to work out what to say next. "Thor is the God of thunder. He has this hammer that can only be lifted by people who are worthy, and just between us-" you leant a little closer to Cassie, "-when I tried lifting it I'm pretty sure I felt it move."

Cassie let out a shocked gasp, her mouth hanging open. "That's amazing."

"Do you know what's even cooler? I'm pretty sure Vision's a robot, but he can lift the hammer, and he's got all these cool powers. I don't think he even knows what he can do yet. And Wanda, she's got these psionic and telepathic powers."

For a moment, you hesitated, seeing Cassie's brow go all furrowed and confused.

"She can manipulate energy and play with peoples minds," you explained, watching as she nodded her understanding. "And then you've got Sam, he's got these mechanical wings that make him fly. And Bucky, he's a supersoldier. And-"

"Y/N?" Cassie interrupted, and you hummed, nodding for her to carry on. "What are your powers?"

"Cassie," Scott chastised again, slipping out of the almost hypnotic trance he'd been in whilst listening to the two of you talk. "That isn't polite."

You hesitated for a moment, your tongue darting out to wet your bottom lip as you shifted on the spot. "No, it's okay. She's just curious," you told him, reaching over to pat his knee. "I can kind of do all of it," you told her, giving a soft shrug. "I can absorb other people's powers and replicate them."

Cassie's mouth fell open in surprise. "So you can fly?"You gave a quick nod. "And you can move things with your mind?" You nodded again. "And you can be super strong?"

"Yep."

"Can you go all small like my dad?" she rushed out, her cheeks rosy with the excitement.

You glanced over at Scott for a moment, your head tilting to the side. "I don't know. I've never tried." A small, concentrated frown pulled at your lips as you thought about the prospect of being able to change size. It would be really helpful on covert missions. "We should try next time we have training."

He nodded quickly. "Yeah, of course." He finally tore his eyes away from you, looking back to Cassie. "Now, quit making Y/N talk work, and let's finish this movie, huh?"

"Fine," she sighed, settling into his side with her eyes on the screen as he hit play. It was nice really, something so normal for once, and you were getting to be a part of it, however small. "Y/N, can you come and sit here?" Cassie piped up, patting the seat on the other side of her.

"Sure, kiddo," you hummed, doing as you were told and settling into the couch, all curled up and comfortable.
