A/N - This chapter is based on the song 'Blow Your Mind (Mwah)' by Dua Lipa. I'm not sure if I like how this turned out, but I had an idea and decided to run with it. I hope you all enjoy it.
You had always found it hard to concentrate in briefings, your mind wandering off as you stared blankly at page after page of information that would likely be completely forgotten the moment you actually got to go on your mission. It was silly really, the way they continually forced you to sit in on meetings like this when they knew you weren't listening anyway.
You only zoned back into the room when the pen was snatched out of your hand, and you glanced over to see Sam glaring at you as he dropped it back onto the table. "If you don't quit clicking that thing, I'm going to go crazy," he uttered.
"Okay," you bit back, raising your hands in mock surrender until he turned his attention back to the front of the room. In all honesty, you didn't understand why he had always insisted on sitting so close to you in these meetings if you annoyed him so much.
You felt the smirk pull at your lips the moment the idea had come into your head, and you slowly reached for your pen, careful not to draw his attention to you before you could get a hold of it. As you withdrew your hand, pen tight in your grip, your smirk shifted into a small smile. Sure, at first the sheer amount that you had annoyed Sam had been an accident, but eventually, you had realised just how easy it was to wind him up, and now, it was the best way you could find to stave off the boredom that had been creeping in for the last twenty minutes.
Without a moment of hesitation, you clicked the pen again, watching as his entire body tensed, and he shifted to glare at you.
"You are the most frustrating person I have ever-"
"Blah blah blah," you interrupted, poking your tongue out at him. "I'm starting to think you've got a little bit of a crush on me, Wilson," you hummed out, tilting your head to the side as his jaw tightened. "Come on, if you didn't like me, why would you spend so much time thinking about all the stuff I do that drives you crazy?"
At this point, the meeting had come to a complete halt, the rest of the team watching you in an awkward silence, until Sam snapped, getting to his feet and gathering up his stuff from the desk. "This whole thing could've been a damn email," he grumbled, before finally marching out of the door.
You stifled the giggle that wanted to slip out of you, biting down on your lip.
"You know," Nat hummed, leaning back in her chair as you turned to face her. "This little flirting routine you guys have got going on is getting to be a real pain the ass for us, work-wise."
You shook your head at her comment. "We aren't flirting," you muttered, dropping the pen back onto the desk and twisting to face the front of the room. "Sam can barely stand to be in my presence," you added, even though it felt like a punch in the gut to admit it. Sam was one of the most attractive, funny, and personable people you had ever met, and it stung to know that he didn't like you. Especially when you had been harbouring a crush on him from the moment you had first met.
"God, I never took you for the clueless type," Nat started, dragging her chair over to you. "Sam's been hopelessly in love with you since the first time he saw you. And the shit you do that he claims bothers him, is all stuff he finds frustratingly endearing."
A scoff slipped out of you, and you quickly shook your head. "No," you uttered, as firmly as you could manage, even though you stomach was doing somersaults at the mere prospect of Sam liking you. "Sam doesn't like me; that's ridiculous." Your eyes roamed away from Nat, glancing over at the rest of the team, searching for anyone who would agree with you.
As soon as your eyes found Steve, you realised just how wrong you had been. He was shifting awkwardly, attempting to avoid eye contact, and going a little red in the face. When you finally caught his eyes, his mouth dropped open, and he shook his head. "I tried to tell him to ask you out months ago, and he said you'd never be interested. Something about you being out of his league."
You nodded slightly, leaning back in your seat as you released a soft sigh. "So, you guys all knew he was into me and didn't say anything?"
"It's not like we didn't want to tell you," Steve hummed, looking like a school boy about to get lectured by the head teacher. "He asked me not to say anything."
There was a long pause as you ran your hand over your face, letting out a groan of frustration. "I'm going to go and talk to him," you finally uttered, pushing up from the desk and shoving your stuff back into your bag before making a hasty exit.
You were already outside of Sam's room when you realised that you didn't know what to say. God, there was so much that you would love to tell him, but if you came on too strong too fast it could end in total disaster. You were still standing there, frowning to yourself when the door opened, revealing Sam glaring out at you.
"You are possibly the loudest person I know," you grumbled. "Like, you make noise when no normal person would be making noise-"
"I like you too," you blurted out, surprising yourself with how suddenly the words had escaped you. "I mean, Steve and Nat told me that you like me, and I thought that was ridiculous, because, I mean look at you, you're gorgeous, and I'm just-"
Out of nowhere, Sam was kissing you, his lips pressed to yours so eagerly that you had to grab him by the shirt to stop from stumbling backwards. "God, you never shut up," he murmured, his lips brushing yours as he spoke. "Like, all you ever do is talk, and don't get me wrong, you have the prettiest voice, and you say some of the best stuff, but it is so damn distracting," he added, before leaning in to kiss you again. This time, you were expecting it, and you let your arms settle over his shoulders, pulling him closer. "And you're so damn beautiful that it makes it hard to look at anything else. It's like you were specially designed to make my mind go crazy or something," he pressed on, still holding you close as you smiled up at him.
"Now who never shuts up, huh?" He snorted slightly, shaking his head at you. "Hey Sam?"He hummed, waiting for you to continue. "I really like you, And I'm sorry for bothering you so much. I can stop winding you up-"
Sam's hand lifted to cup your cheek, causing your words to fall short. "Don't you dare. I need you to promise that you'll never stop bothering me, right now." You chuckled, giving him a small nod. "Come on, give me a proper promise."
"I promise to keep doing stuff that drives you crazy," you hummed, grinning when he leant down to capture your lips with his again.
