A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song '(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty' by KC and the Sunshine Band. I've been really in need of something positive to listen to and work on this week, and I'm sure a lot of you are in the same position, so this ended up coming to mind. It's only short, but I hope you all enjoy it.
In all honesty, Tony's parties were always a little dull for your liking. It was all business talk, wittering on about the latest missions and the newest technological advancements to the suits. It was like being at some sort of superhero convention but with more money and less fancy dress.
All you wanted to do, after a long week of work and life stress, was drink until you were just over the edge of tipsy and dance until your feet were aching. But here you were, listening to two of the most boring old men you had ever met discussing the newest features on a weapon Tony and Bruce had been working on for the last couple of weeks. It wasn't exactly like you were trying to hide your boredom either, your elbow resting on the bar as you released a disgruntled sigh, eyes rolling as you turned away from the conversation to look over the rest of the crowd.
There were a few groups littering the room, spread out and mingling. Nat and Steve had ended up with some ex-military man, looking a little too serious for you to risk venturing in their direction. And Tony and Rhodey were in a passionate discussion with an investor who had clearly decided that now was the appropriate time to bring up a new business venture.
You released another sigh, glancing down at the drink in your hand, your third of the night, and wondering how you'd managed to stay completely sober so far. It was a miracle that you hadn't already called it a night and gone out in search of something actually entertaining to do.
"Are all Midguardian parties so drab?" You flinched as you felt Thor sidle up beside you, only relaxing when he raised an eyebrow and took a deep gulp from his drink.
"No, but from my experience, all of the ones that Tony hosts are," you chuckled, turning fully to face him. "Is Asgard better?" you pressed on, setting your empty glass on the bar and attempting to keep your smile from drifting off of your face.
Thor hummed, nodding slightly. "Asgardian celebrations are always full of music and dancing," he told you, his tongue darting out to wet his bottom lip. "And a lot more alcohol than this," he added, placing his now empty beer bottle down beside your glass. "They're fun. You'd like them."
"To be completely honest, I'm pretty sure anything would be more fun than this," you murmured, gesturing arbitrarily at the people behind you. "Christ, I miss going out dancing. I swear, we get one weekend off a month, and I always end up getting roped into something lame-"
"I saw the sound system in one of the backrooms whilst I was looking for a bathroom," Thor interrupted, watching as your words trailed off into nothing. "We could put some of that Midguardian music of yours on, liven this place up a little."
You shook your head slightly. "Tony would be so mad."
"Do you want to dance or not?"
There was a moment of hesitation as you shuffled on the spot, considering the question. "Show me where to plug my phone in," you finally answered, watching as his smile spread across his features.
Thor led you to the backroom, making sure to look both ways before ducking in behind you. It didn't take you long to figure out the system, connecting your phone to it and hitting a party playlist that you often listened to when you were feeling a little low.
Once you heard the music start playing in the main room, you quickly ducked back out, laughing quietly to yourself as Thor led you over to the middle of the room.
"Dance with me?" he asked, his head tilted to the side slightly as you smiled up at him.
You slipped your hand into his, letting him move you to a tune he'd never heard before.
The evening was going far better than you could have ever imagined, and if Thor had any say in the matter, you weren't going to be running off any time soon.
