A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song If I Ever Lose My Faith In You by Sting. It's a short one, but I hope you enjoy it.

"I trust you," you murmured, standing at the edge of the building and glancing down to the ground far below you. It wasn't supposed to go this way. You should've been able to get in and out of the building without being noticed. God, you should already be home by now watching some shitty show on TV and listening to Sam snore softly.

But no, of course, nothing ever went smoothly. Something had to go wrong. So, when you'd slipped into the room you'd been headed for and set off some of the most attention-grabbing alarms you had ever heard, you'd not been as surprised as you should have been.

You'd considered the idea of fighting your way out the ground floor, but on a covert mission, it wasn't really an option. You'd slipped into the ventilation system, finding your way up to the roof, and then you'd been stuck again until a rather risky idea had come to you.

All Sam had to do was catch you. I mean, how hard would that be? He lifted you all the time; he loved showing off how strong he was. And with the added addition of the suit to give him a hand, it shouldn't be so hard.

"Baby, I'm not saying that you shouldn't trust me; I'm saying the plan is ridiculous-"

"Well, Baby. Unless you've got another suggestion, then this is the only plan we have," you interrupted, letting out a soft sigh. "And the longer I stay up here, the more likely they are to come and search the roof."

You heard him sigh on the other end of your earpiece. "This is so stupid."

"I'm jumping," you uttered. "If you aren't there to catch me, then that's a you problem," you bit out.

"Y/N-"

"Three."

"Y/N, don't you dare-"

"Two."

"Fucking hell-"

"One," you called out, running for the edge of the building and throwing yourself off. The first couple of seconds of freefall were some of the most terrifying moments of your life. And then, he'd crashed into you, his arms wrapping tightly around you as he tried to even out.

His visor slid up, his face glaring back at you. "You've got a death wish, woman."

"I knew you'd catch me," you hummed back, tightening your hold on him. "You're always there to catch me," you added, chuckling when he rolled his eyes at you.

*Time Skip*

"What if I hadn't gotten to you in time? Do you know how that would've felt?"

"But you did-"

"If you had gotten hurt because you had too much faith in me and I failed-"

"You didn't fail."

"That's not the point, Baby. You know it isn't."

You swallowed around the lump forming in your throat. "I knew where you were. I wouldn't just throw myself off a building if I didn't think you'd be able to get to me in time."

"And what if you were wrong? What if I fucked up or the suit malfunctioned or-"

"I knew what I was doing," you interrupted. "I trust-"

Sam let out a disgruntled sigh. "Trust doesn't stop you from ending up splattered on a pavement. Trust applies to mental shit, not shit beyond our physical control."

"I'm not stupid, Sam," you bit at him. "I didn't just throw caution to the wind and expect you to fix it for me." You paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. "We didn't have another option. I knew where you were. I knew that you could get to me with time to spare. I did the calculations before I even mentioned the idea to you."

"You could've gotten hurt."

"I would've been killed if they found me. Believe it or not, a leap of faith seems like a better fate to me."

He let out a soft sigh, reaching out to touch your face lightly. "You have too much faith in me, Baby," he murmured, brow furrowed as he looked down at you.

"If I ever tell you that I don't have faith in you, you're talking to an imposter," you breathed out, smiling slightly up at him. "Or the world's already ended. Or we're both already dead." You shrugged slightly.

"You're an idiot," he murmured, his voice lighter than it had been a moment before, as you leant into his touch.

You nodded slightly. "Yeah, but I'm your idiot, so deal with it."
