Chapter 37

(James POV)
It has been four weeks since Hadaza gave birth to our second daughter Dahalia and she is healing well. I am busy putting my daughter Dahalia down for her first nap of the day while my wife takes a shower. Once Dahalia was down for her nap I smile and quietly leave the room and go to check on my other daughter who was in her room coloring. "Hey princess. What you doing?" I ask walking into her room. "I coulring daddy." She says looking up at me with a smile. "Well since your sister is asleep, you want to play tea party with me?" I ask kneeling next to her. The moment I said that her face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Yes daddy. Tea party pwease." She says standing up and going to get her tea set that she got for her birthday and sets it up. I smile and make my way to her little table and sit on the floor while she sets everything up smiling widely. "Otay daddy." She says smiling and sits at her chair. "Is no one else coming?" I ask her since she was the one in charge. "No. Daddy and me." She says giving me a tea cup. "Okay." I say taking it and smile. Autumn smiles and pours the invisible tea into my cup and then into hers. I watch her and smile seeing just how much she has half my personality and half of my wives. "Otay daddy." She says smiling and looks at me picking up her tea cup and sips it. I smile and pick up my cup and take a sip of the invisible tea. Autumn sips her tea and smiles talking to me and telling me this wild story she made up. Her creativity she gets from her mother and I enjoy every minute of it. "What are you two doing?" I hear my wife ask from the doorway. "Mummy come pway tea party wit daddy and me." She says standing up and grabbing my wives hand to pull her. "Alright." She says taking her hand and walk with her then takes a seat next to me. Autumn then goes and grabs another cup and fills it up with tea. "Otay mummy." She says handing my wife the tea. "Thank you bug." She says smiling and takes it. Autumn smiles widely and sips her tea and goes back to telling her crazy made up story causing my wife and I to smile and laugh. "Excuses me princess? May I be excused to go get the other princess?" My wife asks hearing Dahalia wake up and start crying knowing that Autumn was in charge when we play tea party or dress up. "Otay mummy." She says nodding. My wife stands up and heads to the nursery to take care of our other daughter. "Daddy?" She asks causing me to focus on her. "Yes princess?" I asks. "I wuv you." She say standing up and goes to me and hugs me. I smile and hug her pulling her onto my lap and hold her. "I love you two princess." I say kissing her and hold her in my lap. Autumn smiles and snuggles into me and wraps her arms around me. "You know daddy loves you and will spend time with you but he also has your baby sister to look after. Right?" I say holding her and lean back against the railing of her bed with her in this lap. "Yes daddy." She says nodding and holds me snuggling into my chest. "Good. Daddy loves you and your sister so much. Understand?" I say holding her and rub her back. Autumn nods and lays against me closing her eyes as she falls asleep for a nap. I smile and rub her back and hold her in my arms and close my eyes and fall asleep holding her against me. A few minutes later I feel a blanket get draped over us and smile.

I wake up an hours later to a squirming two year old and see she is still asleep causing me to smile and put her in her bed then kiss her head leaving the room to let her sleep some more. Once I left the room I head downstairs after checking in the nursery to see where my wife was. I get downstairs and see her in the kitchen with Dahalia in her arms as she starts to get dinner ready for us. "Hi love. Need help?" I ask coming into the kitchen and kiss her cheek. "I do. I could use help with dinner. I need to feed Dahalia and I need to start dinner." She says looking at me with a smile. Dahalia starts to cry loudly getting hungry. "I'll do dinner. Go feed Dahalia." I say taking over the food so my wife can feed our daughter. Hadaza heads to the living room with Dahalia and sits on the couch and starts to feed her. I smile and cook looking over occasionally and see the tired smile on my wives face as she watches our daughter eat. Once I had the food in the oven I clean up and then head into the livingroom and sit in front of my wife as she continues to feed her. "I can never tire from watching you feed our daughter." I say smiling and move some of her hair out of her way. "Only you love. Only you." She says laughing and continues to feed our daughter. "I love you." I say smiling and kiss her head gently as she feeds our daughter still. "Daddy? Mummy?" Autumn says from the stairs obviously awake. I stand and go to her and stand at the bottom of the stairs. "We are down here honey. Come on down like I showed you." I say looking up at her. Autumn sits down on her butt and slowly slides down the stairs one step at a time till she was down at the bottom. "Good job. I didn't teach you that way but I'm guessing you learned that from uncle Oliver." I say smiling and pick her up. Autumn smiles and giggles nodding while holding me as we walk into the living room where my wife was still feeding Dahalia. "Hi baby girl. Did you have a good nap?" My wife says looking up at her with a smile. "Yes mummy." She says as I sit down on the couch with her on my lap. "Good. I'm sorry we didn't finish your tea party." She says looking at her and feed Dahalia. "It otay mummy." She says looking at her. "I love you autumn." She says smiling at her then looks down at her other daughter. I smile and hold autumn in my arms and watch her watch her mom feed her sister. Autumn sits snuggled into me and plays with my shirt. "Daddy?" She asks looking up at me. "Yes princess?" I ask looking down at her. "Can I have coodie pwease?" She asks. "Not till after dinner. Speaking of which I need to go check on dinner." I say setting her on the couch next to her mother then head into the kitchen to check on the food. As I'm checking the food I can feel my daughter watching me from the couch curious of what I was doing. I smile and pull out the food and close the oven then set it on the counter to let it cool and turn off the oven. "Mummy?" I hear autumn ask. "Yes princess?" She asks looking at her. "Daddy dowing?" She asks. "Daddy is making dinner in the oven for mommy since mommy is feeding sissy right now." My wife says looking down and see dahalia no longer sucking and eating. "Otay." She says sitting on her butt. "Dinners ready." I say walking into the living room. Autumn is the first one to get off the couch and runs to me. I smile and scoop her up in my arms and hold her taking her to the kitchen and set her in her high chair and then get her food. Autumn sits and watches me and smiles excitedly. I set her food down in front of her and smile seeing my wife walk in with a sleeping Dahalia in her arms. "You feeling okay love?" I ask as she sets Dahalia in her rocker and then heads to the fridge. "I'm fine. Just hungry, and tired, and my breast are suuuuuper sore." She says opening the freezer. "You wanna take care of yourself before you eat?" I ask her and rub her back. "Its super quick and easy. So I'm just going to quickly take care of this and I'll be back." She says holding up the ice pads and leaves the kitchen. I smile and let her and get our food. My wife walks back in a few minutes later and sits down. "Better?" I ask sitting next to her. "Yes better." She says smiling and sits down. "Good now lets eat." I say smiling and eat the food I made. She smiles and eats talking. I smile and eat talking with my wife and daughters enjoying my time at home with them. "Daddy?" My daughter autumn asked getting my attention. "Yes baby girl?" I ask looking at her and smile stroking her cheek. "Sissy." She says pointing to her sister that was laying in her rocker. "What about sissy?" I ask looking at her confused. "Sissy eat?" She asks holding up some of her food. "Your sister ate already love. She can't eat big girl food right now." I say looking. "Why?" She asks tilting her head to the side looking just like her mother when she curious about something. "Because she is not big enough and needs mommy milk right now so she can turn into a big and strong girl like her big sister." I explain to her. "Otay." She says going back to eating her food. "She's very inquisitive James." My wife says smiling. "Yeah I wonder where she gets that from." I say eating the rest of my food. "Oh please. I know exactly where she gets it from." My wife says finishing her food and puts her dirty plate in the sink. "Where does she get it from?" I ask looking at her and stand up cleaning up my empty plate. "Are you honestly that daft? James she takes after you. Good lord." She says rolling her eyes and starts washing the dishes. "Hey give me a break I'm 30. My brain doesn't think that fast anymore." I say laughing and wrap my arms around her waist. "Oh shut up and kiss me." She says drying her hands and turns in my arms then looks up at me. "With pleasure mi'lady." I say dipping her gently and kiss her. She giggles and kisses me and wraps her arms around my neck. I pull her back up and continue to kiss her till I here Autumn call me. "What princess?" I ask going to her as my wife goes and picks up our other daughter. "I done." She says looking at me. "Okay princess, Lets clean up then its bath time." I say smiling and clean up her empty and dirty dishes and place them in the sink then grab her and head upstairs to her bathroom to give her bath. Once I get upstairs with her and into her room to get her pjs and her pull ups. "Daddy I no want to ware that." She pouts pointing to her pjs. "Why princess? You love these pjs." I say looking at her. She just shrugs and pulls my hand to the drawer. "Princess we are not getting a new pair of pjs because you do not like the ones I have now. Come on. Its bath time." I say scooping her up in my arms and head to the bathroom to start her bath. "No Daddy no." She wines. "Sorry princess but its bath time." I say shutting the door and set her clothes down then her. "No." She says opening the door and runs off. "Autumn come back here." I say running after her and grab her taking her back to the bathroom and shut the door locking it so she can't get out. "No daddy." She cries loudly and squirms in my arms as I undress her and set her in the tub and wash her. Autumn cries and tries to get out of the tub as I wash her. "Autumn Marie sit down. Now." I say sternly. Autumn cries and sits not liking bath time. I finish washing her and then dry her off and change her. "Okay lets brush teeth and then bed time." I say unlocking the bathroom door. Autumn cries and runs out of the bathroom and tries to find her mom. "Autumn come back here." I say running after her and find her in the nursery where her mother was trying to put our other daughter to sleep. "Mummy." she says crying and pulling on her pants leg. "Shhh autumn mommy is trying to put your sister to sleep." My wife says ignoring her. Autumn cries laying on the floor having a fit. I go in and pick her up and take her to her bedroom. "Nooo!!!!" She whines crying loudly and fights me. "Time to go to sleep." I say laying her down and tuck her in turning her night light on then leaves. Autumn cries laying her bed not wanting to go to sleep. I leave the room and crack the door open slightly letting her cry herself to sleep then head to the nursery to see my wife putting our sleeping daughter down in her crib. "Goodnight princess." My wife says smiling and leaves the room with me. I walk out into the hallway with her and hear our other daughter sniffling as we make our way downstairs. "Tonight was eventful. I don't know how autumn changed from sweet to upset in a snap." I say making sure the door was locked and the alarm was set. "I can. Welcome to the terrible twos love." My wife says putting the rest of autumns toys away. "How do we stop it?" I ask her seeing she does work with kids. "Like we handle any problem with her. Discipline and patients." She says looking at me with a tired smile. "Okay. So what do we need to do, all knowing teacher." I say playfully and wrap my arms around her waist gently. "What you did tonight was a start. You showed her that since she ran out of the bathroom several times she wasn't going to play. And you put her down to bed letting her cry it out. So that's the start." My wife says smiling and rolls her eyes. "This is why you are the all knowing when it comes to children." I say holding her. "James for Christ sakes you are an uncle to three kids!" She says laughing and rolls her eyes getting out of my grip. "Yeah I'm an uncle and a father but I know nothing about kids. Where as you have a degree in that field." I say pouting playfully and grab her again. "Love hold me when we are in bed and not when I am feeling less tired and weak." She says patting my chest. "You okay love? You are looking quiet drained and ill." I ask her taking in her features fully. "I'm just tired and weak. Sleep has not been easy." She says shaking her head. "Okay lets get you to sleep." I say picking her up bridal style and carry her to our room after turning off the lights. "I can walk love." She says as I head upstairs with her in my arms. "I know but where's the fun in that?" I ask looking at her as I quietly go past both our daughters rooms and walk into our room and lay her down gently on her back. "Your to much James but I love you for it." She says smiling and looks up at me. "I love you for being stubborn and adorable. Now lets get you changed into something more comfortable shall we." I say going to grab some pjs for her. "I could get use to this." I hear my wife say as she sits up on the bed. "And you should. You do so much for our family love that you don't realize. Once in awhile you need time for yourself." I say changing her. "I'm fine love. I don't need to have some time for myself. Plus I have a four week old infant that I need to feed and I have a two year old who has some fire to her." She says letting me. "You need time to yourself love. Love you have rashes all over your body. Are you sure your feeling okay?" I ask seeing her look worse then she was a few minutes ago. She just shakes her head and looks down. "Lay down. I'm going to call my mum and Katy." I say laying her down and call my mother and sister in law and tell them what is going on. Both my mother and Katy said they would be there shortly. I hang up and head downstairs disarming the alarm and unlock the door when I see my mom pull in. "Mom thank goodness your here. She's upstairs and looks awful. Just be quiet because Autumn and Dahalia are sound asleep." I say. My mother nods and goes upstairs and checks on my wife while I wait for Katy. Once Katy arrived we make our way upstairs to my room where my mother was with my wife. "Good thing is that this is something I can take care of and she can stay home. Katy go get a cold wet wash cloth and James dear can you go get her some water please." My mother says to us. I nod and leave with Katy and get what she asks me to get. Katy and I come back and give the items to my mother. "Mum what's wrong with her?" I ask worriedly. "Seems like she is fighting some postpartum symptoms." She says placing the wet wash cloth on her head. "Is she going to be alright?" I ask. "If her fever goes down by tomorrow she will be. I'm going to stay the night just to make sure she is okay." She says looking at me and then at my wife. "Okay." I say looking at her and then my wife. "I'm going to head home." She says looking at us. "I'll show you out." I say walking with her leaving my mom with my wife. "Everything will be okay James. She's strong." My sister in law says. "Thanks Katy. Give my brother the best." I say letting her out. "Will do. Goodnight." I say smiling small then lock up and arm the alarm again then go back upstairs. Once I was upstairs I pop my head into the nursery and see Dahalia is sound asleep still and then check on Autumn and see that she was sound asleep. I head to my room and see my mother taking care of my wife who was sound asleep and shivering. "How's she doing?" I ask sitting on my side of the bed. "She's fine so far. Why don't you get some rest honey." She says checking my wives tempreature. I nod and lay down wrapping my arm around my wives waist gently and fall asleep hoping and praying she is okay.
