"I'm sorry." Her voice was thick, and she bit her bottom lip. "I'm such a mess. I shouldn't have asked you to stay." "It's not a problem, Celine. I'll always be here for you, no matter what it is you need." Rene found his fingers lacing through hers as if it were natural, as if this wasn't the first time they'd slept together. Celine leaned forward slightly, then they heard a clunk in the kitchen. "Anyone want coffee?" Celine jumped up and laughed at herself. "I guess that's our cue to start today." "I guess so." Rene agreed, watching her head off to get ready. He brushed off his clothes, but that didn't push Celine's smell off his clothes and it definitely didn't change how warm and light he felt. He cleared his throat and happily accepted coffee. Considering that breakfast, they returned to the hospital once Celine was cleaned up and changed. Rene stared at her like she was fresh dew on the morning's grass. She looked just as bright and rejuvenating. But when they got to the hospital, Rene was sure it was a genetic thing. Therese looked much better, better than anyone could have hoped given everything that happened just yesterday.Their visit wasn't quite as long, but Rene thought he noticed something gentler in Therese's eyeswhen she looked at him. Less protective and furious, and more filled with respect and thanks. He was sure it was either a trick of the light or the medication. Therese had made herself clear last year. She didn't like Rene and didn't like how close he and Celine were. If only she knew how close Rene wanted to be to Celine.
