Epiphany. [Guren Ichinose x Reader] ➥ Book 2. [Semi-hiatus]

Epiphany ~ Chapter 42.

-Narrator-
Y/N woke up feeling like shit to say the least, an overwhelming urge to puke hit her but luckily there was a sick bowl on the side table which she snatched up.

As gross as it was, it seems as if the slight commotion had woken Guren up, "Are you okay, sweetheart?" He swept her hair to the side as she set the bowl aside, scrunching her nose in disgust,

She shook her head no, her eyes shutting slightly to reduce the amount of morning sun that hit her eyes, "Is Adora working today?"

"I'm pretty sure she is, should I call her?"

"Please," her voice was significantly weaker than usual and she could barely open her eyes to avoid the throbbing headache caused by the sunlight,

Guren wasted no time dialling Adora and explaining the situation, he hummed before hanging up the phone, "She's on her way."

"What time is it?"

"Around 10am" He was silent for a while, "How are you feeling, sweetheart?"

"The good news is my ribs don't hurt anymore, the bad news is my stomach and head do instead." She mumbled, "Maybe it was whatever Adora gave me," she brushed it off,

"I don't think so, she's careful with stuff like that and would've said if the side effects would be this severe." He soothingly caressed his girlfriend's face with his thumb, "Did you just wake up?"

She nodded, she was expecting to wake up somewhat refreshed but at the moment she could barely even keep her eyes open.

The door opened suddenly, "Y/N are you okay?" She could make out Adora's concerned voice,

"I threw up," she responded, deeply exhaling, she felt so exhausted just trying to talk,

"That's weird,"

"She can barely hold a conversation and her stomach and head hurt." Guren spoke on her behalf, not wanting her to strain herself anymore,

"Let me check your blood pressure," she grabbed the arm band and put it on Y/N's arm before turning on the machine,

"Did she get the IV? How are her ribs?"

"Yup, earlier this morning the nurse came in, since she was asleep anyway she said she'd give it to her before she woke up. It seems it's working since her ribs are fine now."

"I see," she waited for the machine to finish, although when it did her eyebrows furrowed, "Her blood pressure is way too low."

She sighed, "What did the nurse look like? I should ask them if they noticed something weird this morning." She said, taking her temperature, which didn't take long, she took the machine out of her ear, satisfied at the relatively normal temperature,

"She had quite distinct brown eyes which looked slightly gold as well."

"Are there any nurses with eyes like that? I'm sure I would've noticed-" Adora wondered, inquisitively,

Guren felt a tug on his sleeve and looked down to find Y/N clutching onto his sleeve, "What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"What colour was her hair?"

"Her hair? How come?"

She exhaled deeply, signalling for him to just answer the questions,

He raised an eyebrow, "She was blonde but I don't-"

"Sabrina." Y/N cryptically, mumbled,

"Sabrina?" Adora questioned,

It quickly occurred to Guren, "The woman involved in the illegal weapon smuggling?"

"Yeah," She quietly confirmed,

He grabbed her arm and began to remove the needle, "Adora, you need to get that tested, I can check the results."

Adora paged some other doctors, "Guren, what's going on?"

"It's possible that nurse poisoned Y/N."

"Huh? Does she work for Kureto or something?"

"I doubt it, but then again she could be getting blackmailed by him if he found out about that incident."

Adora placed a plaster on her arm, "Okay, you know where the lab is right? You can explain the whole thing properly later." Guren nodded, "Tell them it's an emergency, I'll try and diagnose her, call me when the result come back."

Guren grabbed the bag and headed for the lab as a doctor and a few nurses entered the room after him,

"You called for us Dr Iori..."

"Yes, I need you to help get a diagnosis on the patient. We suspect someone impersonated a nurse and poisoned her, if you could do some blood tests too that would be great."

Adora was about to leave to go to the security office but thought twice about it, she looked back before sitting on a seat next to Y/N and whipped out her phone instead, if someone had impersonated a nurse to poison Y/N how does she know that the other staff could be trusted?

"Hi, this is doctor Iori, I need you to get back to me on something-" she proceeded to explain the situation before providing a brief description and requesting for them to call her back if they identify the intruder.

The nurses were just finishing with the blood samples as Adora got off the phone, "I'll take this to pathology, Dr Iori. You need the results immediately right?" One of the nurses asked,

"Please- if you could tell them to call me straight after when they have the results that'd be great!" She nodded at the nurse, gratefully as she rushed out of the room, Adora turned her attention back to Y/N,

"Y/N can you hear me? How do you feel?"

"Tired-" She mumbled, Adora got out her stethoscope and put it at Y/N's chest, nothing seemed to sound wrong with her heart but she noticed that Y/N's breathes we're pretty laboured.

"I think it's a haemorrhage." She turned to the other doctor,

"I thought so too, but where?"

"She is pregnant, I think it'd be wise to start with the abdominal area, in case we need to perform an emergency c-section."

"Let's get her ready for a CT scan then." The other doctor stated, and Adora agreed nodding,

"I should probably call Dr Ishida too," she suggested, as the remaining nurses prepared to take Y/N to the other room,

He picked up fairly quickly, "Dr Iori, are you well?"

"I am, I hope you are too; unfortunately the patient we had yesterday isn't."

"Did something happen?"

"We suspect she was poisoned, we're still waiting for all the test results and are going to take her for a CT scan but I still thought I should call you in case we need to do a c-section."

"I see, let me know the results and the decision you make, I'm on my way now." He reassured,

"Thank you Dr Ishida, see you soon." She thanked him as she hung up and began following the others out of the room and to the CT scan, surprisingly enough her phone rang almost immediately after, but this time it was Guren,

"Guren, is the test done?"

"Yeah, I recommend you act fast; the test showed it was ibuprofen."

"I was half-expecting something grim like rat poison," Adora entered the control room for the CT scan, "It's not like it's any better though." She sighed, ibuprofen was one of the number one medications to avoid when pregnant and it seems as if the person who switched the IV drip knew this,

"No, do you think there's going to be a c-section?"

"It's likely," She began to explained their suspicions of a haemorrhage and how Y/N was getting a CT scan as well as several blood tests,

He sighed, "Let me know how they go, I've got to go somewhere really quickly, so please take care of her."

"Yeah, yeah...just get ready to meet your child!" Adora rolled her eyes, a small smile on her face before hanging up the phone and joining the other doctors and nurses and sharing the new found information with them.
