We walked into the admin building.
Clementine: So...you have a...sword?
I looked at her and nodded.
Y/n: We found it a while back, when the safe zone was bigger. It was in some kind of junk pile, but after some sharpening and some new paint that we found in the old art room, it looked badass.
Clementine smiled, nodding.
Clementine: It does look badass.
Y/n: Why thank you, Miss.
We turned down the corridor as Ruby came from the opposite way.
Ruby: Gah! You little motherfucker!
She came up to the two of us, shouting at Clementine.
Ruby: Hey. HEY.
Clementine: Uh…
She looked to me for help.
Y/n: Hey, Ruby? What happened?
Ruby: Her little boy just BIT me!
She showed us a clean bite mark on her hand. She turned back to Clementine.
Ruby: He’s lucky I didn’t take a boot to his head. Nearly took a chunk outta me. Gah, it hurts somethin’ fierce.
Y/n: Come on, Ruby. He’s just a little kid.
Clementine: Uh, God, I’m so sorry. He acts out sometimes. He’s been through a lot.
Ruby: Yeah, well, ain’t we all? Don’t see any of us sinking our teeth into either of you. Boy needs to learn some respect.
Y/n: Ruby, you just need to calm down.
The red-headed girl sent me a glare and stormed off.
Y/n: Sorry about her.
Clementine: It’s fine. Everyone’s on edge.
We continued to walk down the corridor, hearing Louis’ music louder with each step. It was different than earlier, it was kind of creepy, but it was probably just Louis showing off to AJ.
I opened the door for Clementine and she smiled in thanks.
AJ turned around at the sound of the door, realising who it was his smile grew and he rushed over to hug her.
AJ: Clem! You’re okay. I was afraid you were…
Clementine smiled at him with a matching, huge grin.
Clementine: I’m okay. And you know what you are?
AJ: What?
Clementine: Ticklish!
She began to tickle the boy, making him giggle. I smiled at the scene, thinking about how pure it was in this now dark world.
Then she stopped, looking seriously at AJ.
Clementine: But...AJ, listen to me. That girl out there says you bit her. Is that true?
AJ looked down, not wanting to answer.
Clementine: You can’t be doing that, kiddo. These people helped us.
AJ: I didn’t mean to. She snuck up on me.
Clementine: Still. No more bites.
AJ: No more bites.
There was a pause and then Louis stopped playing and turned around to them.
