Days went by as we were getting closer and closer to classes resuming at Haven Academy. Everyone's training was improving while mine was still lacking.

Then again, I never was good at fighting to begin with. Even when I was training with Dad when Ruby and Yang were away from home, I'd always get my butt kicked and Dad would lecture me on how I should always keep my guard, don't leave any openings, and all that other stuff about self defense.

Aside from that, I don't even have a semblance. I looked over at Ash, who was sitting on the couch with a book in his hand.

He started developing a hobby of reading books yesterday after reading an old fairytale, The Girl in the Tower.

As I stared at him, I couldn't help but think about the riddles he's given me. Him growing up so fast, absorbing Grimm, me turning into one... I feel like Ash knows more than what he's telling me.

If I wanted to transform again, could I do again at will? But when I transformed, I couldn't control myself.

"Is something wrong?" Ash spoke while looking at me. "You've been staring at me for a while now. Are you thinking about something?"

"A lot of things, actually," I admitted. "Ash, how were you able to get so big within two weeks?"

"By absorbing the Grimm." He answered. "Like back at Beacon?" I asked. "Correct. With each Grimm I consume, I become stronger. " Ash explained.

"Does that mean you can absorb a lot of Grimm at once?" I asked. "No. I can only consume one Grimm at a time." He informed.

"Mm... Hey, Ash? Do you ever... think about going back to Salem? To ask her more questions." I asked. Ash laid his book in his lap to look at me.

"Yes, but not to ask questions. This may sound a bit unsettling, but I can sometimes feel her in my head. It might have something to do with the fact I'm part Grimm." He informed.

"Is that why you've been up at night?"

"..."

"Ash?"

"So, you've noticed. I tried to be discreet about it because I didn't want to worry anyone."

"Tell me what's bothering you, Ash."

Ash looked down at his book for a moment before turning his gaze to the window. "Lately, I've been puzzled... I've seen how everyone is fighting so hard to defeat the threat of Salem. I think about what I can do to help out. But I am unable to fight properly." He mentioned.

"What do you mean? You were able to protect me just fine while I was out cold in the woods." I stated.

"That was only because of my hunger."

"Your hunger?"

"Yes. Whenever I feel hungry, I tend to get irritated. Furious, even. It was that very hunger that resulted me into devouring anything that came near. Not caring whether or not if it was a human or a Grimm, I wanted to kill and eat."

I stared at him in worry. "While I was unconscious, did you think about eating me, too?" I asked.

"No," Ash shook his head. "Seeing you was what kept me from devouring you. Because you emit this strange feeling whenever I'm near you. That's why all I wanted to do at the time was protect you," He explained.

"Ozpin said, recklessly charging in to attack could only result in dire mistakes. Which is why, I wonder..."

Ash trailed off as he looked back at his book again. "What is it?" I asked. "I... There's this strange sensation from within me, and it's eating away at me. I'm not sure how to describe this feeling. What could it be?" He asked, mostly to himself.

"Sadness? Hunger? Frustration?" I guessed. "Maybe. I do not know. It feels as if there is something I must do, but cannot." Ash said.

I walked over to him, crawled onto the couch, and hugged him.

"Whatever it is you need to do, we'll figure it out together, okay?" I assured. Ash sighed softly and placed his hand over my arm. "Yes." He agreed.

"Alright, the first batch is just about done." Ren informed. "Awesome! Now we just need Qrow and we'll be all set." Ruby replied.

"Do you really think he's gonna bring that many people?" Nora asked before tossing a small piece of carrot into her mouth. "This is a lot of food."

"It sure is," I agreed. "But we could use all the help we can get."

"That's right." Ruby agreed. "I'm back!" I heard Uncle Qrow call from the living room. "Be right there!" Ruby called back to him.

"Uh, I think you're going to overcook that." I informed Ruby. "No, I'm not, shut up!" She whined, and a puff of black smoke rose from the pan.

I couldn't help but giggled. "No? Tell that to the puff of black smoke." I replied as smoke rose from the pan. "Fine. Ren, take over." Ruby said, and went to greet Uncle Qrow.

"There's so much food..." Ash said. "I think this will certainly taste different than any Grimm I've eaten."

"He's eaten Grimm?" Jaune asked me. "Yeah. It's his source of nourishment. I'm trying to get him off it though." I explained. "Lily!" Ruby called.

"Coming!" I called, then headed to the living room. "Did you need something? What's-?!"

My sentence was cut short with a gasp when I saw Yang standing across from from me with Weiss. "Yang...?" I said in disbelief.

"I-I... Yang, I'm so sorry! I know I shouldn't have run off without saying anything! I know I should've told you that I was awake and I was okay, but I thought you'd be mad at me! I thought you wouldn't want to see me, and I thought... I thought...!"

My words became scrambled as tears started to fall down my cheeks.

I tried to recollect myself by trying to breathe and wiping the tears from my eyes, but I couldn't stop myself from crying. "Yang, please don't be mad at me! Please don't hate me! I'm sorry! I-"

Yang cut me off by hugging me close to her. "I love you." She whispered, softly. I buried my face in her shoulder as I hugged her back. "I love you, too..." I repeated.

"Just promise me. Promise me right now that you won't do anything to worry me like that. Okay?" Yang said as she looked at me.

I sniffled and nodded my head to her. "Okay. I promise." I said. Yang smiled gently at me and wiped my tear away with her thumb, making me smile back at her.
