While we got ready for our evening with Kevin and Michelle, we set up my laptop with a news channel on, to catch up with what had been going on with the case. The only novelty was that the State of Florida was now thinking of getting involved.

Since some of the abominations had been committed there, the state was considering a double prosecution for the ones who'd participated in Becker's parties in his Floridian Mansion. We didn't really know what to make of it yet. Contrary to New York, Florida had the death penalty, which meant that Becker and a few others might get the easy way out. Instead of spending the rest of their lives in jail, rotting in a ten by ten cell, they'd get unalived and it would be it.

I was fresh out of the shower, makeup'd, and in my underwear, as I entered the bedroom, where Lex was finishing up. He was looking as dapper as ever, with black pants, a crisp white shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and a pair of leather shoes. I sensed his eyes on the fine lingerie that barely covered me, knowing he loved this pink ensemble, and I bit back a smile.

"I think I'll head over to Portland tomorrow," I said, picking up the outfit I'd prepared on our bed. "You can definitely tag along if you want."

I missed my best friend, and tomorrow was Friday. I still hadn't asked her, but she would most certainly welcome me for the evening, and we'd get to spend the weekend together. Finally, now that it was all over, I'd get to tell her everything. For her own sake, I'd kept her in the dark, keeping it all to myself. She wasn't fooled by my dismissive attitude, though, and I knew she perceived something was off with me. But until now, I hadn't been able to reveal what exactly. This weekend I would, and then hope she wouldn't be too mad at me for keeping her out of the loop.

Since I also had to go visit my parents, I might divide my time to spend some of it with Kate, and sleep in my childhood home. I missed them, and I missed my abuela, who was so fucking badass, she had survived an actual hitman.

"Yes, why not? Maria Carmen and I still haven't perfected our plans to elope," Lex humored. I laughed frankly as I slipped the peacock green dress on.

"She'd never survive your stamina."

"What we have is spiritual, not physical, you shallow woman."

"So what? You'd come to me so I can take care of your blue balls?" I asked, going to him and presenting him my back, so he'd pull up the zipper that went up my spine. He diligently complied with my silent request, and dropped a kiss on the slope of my neck when he was done.

"You're the only one I ever want to take care of my blue balls, freckles. Just like I'm the only one who'll ever help with your blue ovaries."

I twisted my neck to meet his gaze, delighted by his answer. "You're wrong, my love. I have Idris and Jason," I teased. That earned me a dry slap on the ass, and I swiftly walked away from him with a laugh.

About fifteen minutes later, I was ready to go, and we made our way to the parking lot. As Lex had offered, we had bought a dessert – I'd picked a beautiful cake with a bunch of exotic fruits on it – and two bottles of wine from the curated cellar at home. We'd also prepared a little surprise, which was in an insulated bag with an ice pack.
