In the school library, Sam found a book about tulpas and placed it on one of the tables for us to see.

"Tulpas are monsters that are created by an intense, focused energy on an idea or-"

"Or a story," Marie cut him off.

"Great," Maeve said. "How do you kill an idea?"

"Well, in Hell House, Sam, Dean and Ellie burnt the house down, to take out the one tulpa they hunted."

Dean and I glanced at each other, remembering the case from what felt like a lifetime ago.

"Yeah, yeah, you kill the symbol, you kill the tulpa," Dean nodded. "It's a- actually, a pretty good start. So, the scarecrow in your play. Is it a person, or a prop?"

"Prop. And it's terrifying. We keep it in the boiler room."

"That's uh... great," Sam nodded. "Um... can you guys read up? Just give us a sec'."

We walked a little ways away to discuss without the girls.

"Fine, so, this doesn't add up," Sam pointed out. "Tulpas require a ton of psychic energy to juice up."

"Yeah," I nodded in agreement.

"Well, it's not like the Supernatural books are tearing up the New York Times best-seller list. And I seriously doubt this play has even sold out."

"I hope not," Dean grimaced.

"Well, but you know what? This flower," Sam showed us the picture of the flower they'd found at both crime scenes again. "I know I've seen it in the lore somewhere. There's gotta be a connection."

"Alright, you two get on that. I'm gonna take a shot at burning man," Dean said.

After he and Marie disappeared to the boiler room, Sam and Maeve started looking for an explanation for the flower. While they were researching, my phone rang and I stepped into the hall to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Mommy."

"Hey, buddy. What's up?"

"When you coming home?"

"Soon, bud," I promised. "Where's your sister?"

"She doing homework," Zep replied. "Miss you."

"I miss you too, kiddo. I'll be back with Daddy soon, okay?"

"Otay. Wuv you."

"I love you too, Zep. Can I say hi to your sister?"

"Otay. Maddie!"

I smiled as the phone was handed off.

"Hi, Mama."

"Hey, darling. Everything okay?"

"Uh huh."

"How was school?"

"Boring," Maddie sighed. "I hate math."

"Yeah, math sucks," I smiled. "Are you and Zep being good for Josh and Lucy?"

"Yeah, we are. When will you and Dad be home?"

"Soon, sweetheart. We just have to finish up something first."

"When can I help?"

I sighed, running a hand over my face.

"You're helping by going to school, darling."

"I don't like school. I want to help you get rid of the monsters."

"We'll talk about it when Dad and I get back, okay?" I deflected as Dean and Marie reappeared at the end of the hall.
