Cordelia

It's about 8:45 and Kai and Seth are already asleep. I expected them to be up by midnight, but once they left, they went to bed and fell asleep.

I debated whether or not to go to bed, but then I remembered I found the envelope at school.

I went to my room and started searching through my bag.

"Where the fuck is the envelope." I groaned.

"Here it is." I finally found it. I looked at it for a moment, but then I opened it.

Dear Cordelia.
Do you remember me? I left you when I was a little girl, but now I regret it very much. You don't know who your fucking father is. You have to leave him. Otherwise I'll come for you. And you'll be safe with me.
Sincerely, Mommy.

Is my mom alive? She wasn't very nice to me anyway, but at least my step-father didn't hit me. This can't be true. Finally, if I like somewhere, do I have to leave again? What did she mean, I don't know who my dad is?

I was thinking like that for a while when I heard the doorbell ring.

"What's that?" I said to myself and walked down to the door.

As I got closer to the door, I heard someone knocking and I heard a voice too.

"Cori, it's me. Please open the door." I heard Landon.

What if it's not Landon? Alexander said they had an important meeting.

"Are you there, Princess? Please open the door." I'm pretty sure it's Landon from the voice.

I don't know what came over me, but I slowly walked to the door and started to unlock it. I still had the envelope with the letter in my hand. I was honestly almost shaking. I don't know if it was the letter or the fact that Landon was knocking on my door when he wasn't supposed to be here.

When I opened the door, I immediately saw Landon. Just like I thought.

"Hey, Cori, can I come in?" He asked me.

"Ummm.... sure, come on." I invited him in.

"What are you doing here? I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that Alexander said that- " Landon interrupted me by putting his hand over my mouth. I'm surprised I didn't flinch.

"They're in a meeting, but I left." Landon said, taking his hand away from my mouth.

"What is this meeting even about? If you don't mind me asking." I asked him. I tried to tell him as gently as possible.

"Nothing important, are Seth and Kai asleep?"

"Yes, they're asleep." I replied.

"Perfect." He said quietly to himself, but I heard him.

"Ummm... and why did you come here?" I asked him. I hoped he wouldn't think I was interrogating him, even if that was the goal.

"Just wanted to go somewhere quiet." He confided in me. "What's in the envelope?" He asked, reaching for the envelope, only my reflex was faster and I put the envelope behind my back.

"Nothing important." I copied his words. "What do you want to do here?" I asked him.

"I don't know, maybe talk to you or we can cook something. I make a very good lasagna." He complimented me. But why not? If we have the stuff, we can do it.

"Okay, we can cook something and we can talk about it, okay?" I wasn't planning on going to bed anyway, so I don't see the problem.

"Ok, you don't mind? You didn't want to go to sleep?" He asked me.

"No, I'm fine. I wouldn't have fallen asleep that early anyway." I replied.

"Then we can go ahead."

Together we walked into the kitchen and cooked whatever we could think of for about 2 hours. I've honestly never had a conversation like this before. Of course I didn't tell him about being beaten, even though he asked me about it several times. I was surprised that he was still smashing things this afternoon and now he's being really nice to me.

"Hey, I think I'm gonna have to go, so your dad doesn't see me either. Please don't tell him. Don't tell anyone." Landon begged me.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." I smiled at him. He smiled back at me. We stood so close that our chests were almost touching.

"You know Cordelia, you're a beautiful woman. I may not know what happened to you, but don't forget." Landon continued his arms around my waist and pulled me even closer. "You're the most beautiful, strong, and kindest woman I've ever met." Our faces were so close that if we moved even a little, our lips would touch.

"No shit, I'm sure you've been drinking." We laughed a little, but our faces were still very close

"I hope Cordelia, Seth and Kai are asleep." We heard Alexander's voice.

"Fuck, I gotta go, I'm gonna climb through your window." Landon said and took me to my room.

"You're not here by car?" I asked him. Why would he climb through the window if he had a car parked in front of the mansion?

"I have it parked elsewhere." Landon walked over to me one last time and gently took my hand. "Bye Cordelia." He kissed my hand and climbed up to the window.

"Are you sure you won't hurt yourself?" I walked over to the window.

"Don't worry." He said and jumped. I immediately looked down to see if he was okay. I am on the 3rd floor after all, but as soon as I looked down I saw Landon already running away.

I don't know why I care about him, but I'm glad he's okay.

"I should go to bed." I said to myself and went to lie down.

A few minutes later I heard the door open.

"Cori, are you still awake?" Someone whispered, I couldn't identify their voice.

"Mhmmm. What do you want?" I asked him. I was so sleepy I didn't even know who it was.

"Nothing, just asking. You can go back to sleep." He said and left.

I thought about Landon the whole time until I forgot about the letter I got.
