A mere boy.
A mere boy held the keys to Belleth's powers. A half blood, mortality mixed with infinity. The Angel Queen's son. It sounded to Belleth as the joke of history.
But only fools would ignore a statement coming out of the Oracles' mouths.
"Where is he?" , the demon asked the beings made of light.
Not here, not anymore , they answered.
"Give him to me, if you want your dream to come true." Belleth did not have the slightest idea about the Oracles' plan, nor did he care. His goal came first, it will be fulfilled first, and all the other dreams will vanish before his greatness.
He is not ready for you yet. We have taken him to the demons, where he truly belongs. When the time comes, you must train him, turn him into the killing tool you wish him to be.
"You took him away from his mother?" The demon laughed so hard it shook the clouds underneath him. "Aren't the gods of this universe pretty evil!"
No , they hissed, anger beginning to show its first signs in their monotonous singing voices. You misunderstand. We do not take direct action to shape the history of the three worlds. We are masters who move their puppets around.
"You're only making it worse for yourself" , he snickered. "Who's the puppet this time?"

Belleth expected to hear a name unknown to him. A Nobody demon, a weakling, only used for stealth matters like this one. It could also be an angel, a close friend of the queen, someone who could sneak in and out of her castle without anyone noticing.
Never had he predicted the Oracles' next words.

It was his father, his own father who took him and left. They replied, as if it was the most natural fact to announce to someone, like they were announcing the weather, something that happened out of everyone's control.

As if they had no hand in it.

The only thought that came to the demon's mind, at that moment, was how the world was full of twisted minds, way more than his own could ever be.

*************

The smell of the sea hit our nostrils the moment we landed in a new World.
Another vision of the past, however this time, we were sitting on raw wet sand that welcomed the shy waves of the sea into its arms. Next to us, there was an angel woman holding a baby, its white blanket hiding it from view. The blanket was decorated with countless pictures of laughing sharks, their pointy teeth showing, wings behind their back, a circle of light on their bald heads.
The baby did not emit any sound, for it was sleeping soundly in its mother's arms.
The mother was a slightly younger version of Lailah, wearing a black sweatshirt over an écossais red and wrinkled mini-skirt. Her knee-high socks were white, ending with a cat head on her thighs.
The Angel Queen kept singing a lullaby, occasionally raising up a hand to lift her locks away from her face, her hair dancing along with the wind. Her wings wrapped her and her baby in a world of their own, and despite being an outsider, I could feel her love from a distance. Next to me, Noah shuddered, his eyes a color I have never seen before. Snow-white, just like his mother's wings.
"She loved you more than herself" , I couldn't help but utter the thought out loud.
Noah nodded, the tears in his eyes too shy to trickle down his cheeks. Relief flooded out of him, his feelings flowing their way into my own heart. He was glad, extremely so, that he wasn't abandoned after all, he was only taken away by those who deserved nothing but death.
"She did love me." , he echoed to himself.

"Let's take you home", Lailah whispered, landing a kiss on Baby Noah's forehead.
And as she took off, a late realization hit me. No matter how much time Noah spends with the demons, the boy I fell in love with will never become as bad a person as they wish him to be.
Because all his life, he has been protected. All his life, he has been carrying a deep love in his heart, immortal remnants of his real mother's feelings, a part of her flesh, a fraction of her very essence. A love stronger than any power yet to be born in the three worlds. A love that transcended reality, careless of the boundaries of our mundane existence.
A love from an immortal being.

The day of Lailah's coronation was both the happiest and the worst day of her endless immortal life.
The moment she put that itchy golden crown on her head, she immediately found it quite unpleasant, ruining her straight black locks, which she spent two hours fixing in front of the mirror, on that morning. The moment she took off the crown was also the moment she heard a voice inside her head, calling her from the back door of her new chamber.
Lailah, new Queen of the Heavens, come to meet your new fate.
