Natalia entered the doors of the hospital building, unease running through her. She didn't know what her reaction would be to her turning up, but she knew she had to be there for her.

No matter what had happened, she didn't deserve what had happened to her. No one deserved to be diagnosed with cancer. It was one of the things Natalia hated most in the world. If it was something that could be killed, she would make sure to torture the hell out of it.

But, sometimes nothing is strong enough to fight the hardest of battles, you just have to pray that the war ceases.

Walking through to the waiting room, she saw Alma anxiously waiting there. Her eyes were fixated on the same spot, mulling over her thoughts.

Natalia walked up to her, sitting beside her and placing a hand on her back. "I can come in with you, if you want," Natalia offered and Alma glanced beside her.

"Why? After what my brother did, I thought you'd hate me forever," Alma asked, genuine heartfelt shock in her voice.

Natalia shook her head. "I'm not going to punish you for his mistakes, and I'm not going to let you fight this alone," She assured her, and Alma's eyes became even glossier, her bottom lip trembling.

Alma didn't speak again, simply soothed that she had someone beside her. All she wanted was a shoulder to lean on, and Natalia was giving her that.

"Alma Williams," The doctor announced, stood there with his clipboard and his white jacket.

Alma stood up, walking towards the doctor as Natalia walked beside her. They followed him to a private room and Alma sat down on the chair, Natalia standing beside her.

"Unfortunately, it's not good news," The doctor told her, and Natalia's heart dropped.

"The cancer is growing more violent and it's spreading even further. I'm afraid, you don't have much longer left to live, Miss. Williams."

Natalia shut her eyes, cursing herself that she allowed Alma's bastard brother to stop her from spending more time with her. Now, she only had a number of days, and Natalia hated herself that she waited this long.

"Is there anything we can do? Chemotherapy? Radiation?" Natalia asked, noticing how Alma was fiddling with her hands.

"Miss. Williams doesn't wish to partake in any further treatment, have your wishes changed?" The doctor asked her and Alma shook her head.

"I know I'm not going to live forever, Natalia. This is my time, and I'd rather leave the money to Kiara than spend it on treatment that will only delay the inevitable, not prevent it."

Natalia nodded, her own eyes becoming glossy. "If that's what you want to do, I'm here for you," Natalia assured her, holding her hands.

"But I think you should speak to your brother."

Alma ripped her hands away, profusely shaking her head. "No, I'm not speaking to Easton," Alma firmly told her.

"I know he's not the greatest person, I of all people should know that. But he's your brother, and you'll end up regretting not even trying to keep in contact with him."

Alma swallowed the lump in her throat, nodding. "You're probably right," Alma admitted.

"Actually, Miss. Williams is on strict instructions to rest from now on," The doctor told them and Natalia's breath lodged in her throat.

She knew what she needed to do, but it was the last thing she wanted. However, for an old friend, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

With a child blossoming in her stomach, the last thing she wanted was to come face-to-face with the man whose baby she was pregnant with. The same man who was the reason she lost it.
