(A/n: very eventful chapter y'all 🫣🤭)

I step over a dead bush and lift a dry piece of timber,

"Will this do?" I say to him

"Yes that perfect, we just need to get about twenty more"

I grunt as I drop the log onto the pile of wood, i dust my hands off on my top as I scan the area looking for more. I spot a few lying by a near tree, I make my way over there and pick them up in my arms, I notice that this tree is different, it has a few leaves clinging onto the branches. Not a lot but it still means it has a source of water. I look around it but the ground is still dusty and dry. Maybe it rained a while ago and that's where it got the water. I shrug it off as I bring the wood to the pile.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ghost kneels in front of the carefully placed logs and he starts twisting a stick onto a groove in a log. After a minute, a stream of smoke floats up off the wood, we all watch in hope as he keeps twisting it between his two hands. Eventually it sparks and lights on fire, he places some dry grass to help the flame and we have a blazing fire in no time.
"I never knew he could do that" says Alejandro in amusement
I nod in agreement.
The sun is on the horizon now and the sky has turned a deep orange on one side and a bluish grey on the other, the moon lies opposite to the sun. It's weird seeing them both at the same time. We sit in a circle around the hot fire trying to keep warm, the temperature has gotten cold so fast it's almost like we're back in Ireland again.
"Oh, I've got sunburned" says Soap lifting up the rolled sleeve on his arm, theres a big difference between his normal pale skin the a red burnt side.
"Lucky for me I don't get sunburned" boasts Gaz
"You know you can still get sunburned right?" Soap says looking at him,
"I can?"
"Mhm, you just can't see it on your skin"
"Oh"
"I should've kept my coat on like y/n" says Gaz
Ghost looks over to me making eye contact, he already knows why I didn't take it off. Alejandro knows too as he sees me and Ghost looking at each other and he looks at me too with empathy on his face. I look to the ground before anyone else can look at me.
"I'm going for a walk" I tell them standing up
"Don't get lost" says Price
I don't reply as I take off behind the car walking back towards the tree with the leaves on it, there's something about it that's calling me back. I get down onto my knees and start scratching at the dirt covering the roots, there's still nothing. I sit against the tree with my back against the trunk and sigh,
I hear crunching footsteps behind me and I turn around to see who it is. Just as I guessed.
"Are you ok?" Ghost says "Gaz should've thought before he spoke"
"I'm fine" I say watching him as he sits beside me.
"Are you really though, I don't want you lying just so I'll stop worrying about you, I'll always be thinking of you"
"Honestly, I do feel better. It was just a depressive episode, I get them every now and then"
"I'm sorry it must be hard"
 I nod my head
"Are you ready to talk?"
...
"Okay" I whisper
"I'm proud of you for doing this" he says
"What am I supposed to say"
"Anything you want, I'll always listen"
"...The reason I hurt myself was because I thought I was only good enough to be a one night Stan, all the men trying to get me to go home with them just so they could use me as their toy for a little while and then throw me away"
"I feel like that sometimes too, it's not a nice feeling"
"You do?" I turn to face him raising an eyebrow,
"Believe it or not, women find me attractive" he smirks
"And why wouldn't I believe that" I smile
...
"Can I ask you something"
"Okay..."
My stomach flips around like a roller coaster,
"Do you like König" he looks into my eyes daring me to answer
"No way" I laugh "I met him yesterday"
"Right, I was just wondering because you were being so nice to him"
"He has social anxiety"
"How can you tell?"
"I just know" I say looking away
"You have it too don't you"
"No, my cousin used to before she..."
"It's ok you don't have to say it"
...
The sky is completely dark now, the stars twinkling in the sky brighter than I have ever seen, there's no light pollution out here in the middle of nowhere, no light to dim the night. It's gotten colder now as I feel a shiver slide down my spine.
"You cold?"
"Mhm" I say pulling my knees up to my chest
"Come here" he puts his arm out, i slide over to him as he wraps an arm around me. A comfortable silence falls over us as we gaze up at the stars,
"I'm sick of this" he suddenly says
"Sick of what" I question looking into his eyes
"Pretending I don't like you" he looks down at me
"Your not very good at pretending lieutenant" I laugh
...
"I like you too" I say back
He gazes into my eyes as his other hand reaches for his mask and he pulls it up over his jaw, he leans down, his hand gently holding the crook of my neck. I place my hands on his chest as our lips get closer to each other
"GHOST Y/N WE HAVE SIGNAL" I hear Price shout from the makeshift camp
For fuck sake
