Chapter Thirty-eight | The Pandorica Opens

—"VAVOOM!" the Doctor said causing Amy to look up at him confused. Eve stood at the console also looking confused.

"Va-what?"

"I can't believe I've never thought of this before, it's genius." The Doctor started running around the console as Eve sat down on one of the seats. "Right! Landed, come on."

"Where are we?" Eve asked as the Doctor took her hand.

"Planet One. The oldest planet in the universe. There's a cliff of pure diamond and, according to legend, on the cliff there's writing. Letters 50 feet high, a message from the dawn of time, and no one knows what it says, cause no one's ever translated it. Until today." The Doctor smiled.

"What happens today?" Amy asked.

"Us. The Tardis can translate anything. All we have to do is open the doors and read the very first words recorded in history." The trio went outside to see the world and the words written on the diamond cliff.

'Hello Sweeties'

Eve laughed slightly. "Vavoom!"

The Doctor rematerialised the Tardis before opening the door and stepping outside. "Right place?" Amy questioned as she and Eve walked outside.

"Just followed the coordinates on the cliff face. Earth. Britain. 1:02 am." Eve looked over his shoulder to look at the watch. He tapped it. "No, Pm. No, AD."

They looked down the hill to see many roman soldiers. "That's a Roman Legion," Amy said shocked.

"Well, yeah. The Romans invaded Britain several times during this period." The Doctor told the two.

"Oh, I know. My favorite topic at school. Invasion of the hot Italians. Yeah, I did get marked down for that title." A man came running over and bowed down.

"Hail, Caesar!"

"Hi." Eve and the Doctor waved slightly.

"Welcome to Britain. We are honored by your presence."

"Well, you're only human. Arise... Roman person." He didn't stand at the Doctor's command. That's when he glanced at Eve.

"Rise..?" She told him causing him to do so.

"He thinks Eve is Caesar? I thought he was a man." Amy looked shocked and so did Eve. She nodded in agreement.

"Cleopatra will see you now." Eve 'oh'ed when she noticed the smeared lipstick all over his lips. The trio all smirked.

They were led to a tent which Eve entered first with a smile on her face. There sat "Cleopatra" also known as River Song. "Hello, sweetie."

"River!" Eve smiled like a child in a candy shop as The Doctor and Amy walked in. "Hello!"

"You graffitied the oldest cliff-face in the universe." The Doctor said to River.

"You wouldn't answer your phone," River said before she clapped her hands together making a man hand her a rolled-up painting.

"What is it?" Eve asked as she looked down at the rolled-up paper.

"It's a painting. Your friend Vincent." The Doctor snatched it from River's hands as Eve helped the woman stand. "One of his final works. Thank you, Evie, Dear." They went over to the desk while the Doctor rolled out the painting. "He had visions, didn't he? I thought you ought to know about this one."

"Doctor? Doctor, what is this?" Amy asked. Eve looked down at the painting with shock. It was a painting of the Tardis but it was exploding.

"Why's it exploding?" Eve questioned.

"I assume it's some kind of warning." River guessed as the Doctor sat down.

"Something's going to happen to the Tardis?" Amy asked.

"It might not be that literal. Anyway, this is where he wanted you. Date and map reference on the door sign, see?" River pointed out making Eve look closer at the painting.

"Does it have a title?" The Doctor asked.

"The Pandorica Opens."

"The Pandorica? What is it?" Amy asked.

"A box. A cage. A prison. It was built to contain the most feared thing in all the universe." River explained as the Doctor stood again.

"And it's a fairy tale, a legend. It can't be real." He told them all.

"If it is real, it's here and it's opening. And it's got something to do with your Tardis exploding." The Doctor placed scrolls on the table. "Hidden, obviously. Buried for centuries. You won't find it on a map."

"No. But if you buried the most dangerous thing in the universe, you'd want to remember where you put it."

The group rode on horses towards Stonehenge where the Doctor started scanning for this so-called Pandorica. Amy placed a hand on one of the stones. "How come it's not new?"

"Because it's already old. Been here thousands of years. No one knows exactly how long." River explained as Eve followed the Doctor.

"Okay, this Pandorica thing. Last time we saw you, you warned us about it, after we climbed out of the Byzantium." Amy told her, River just put a finger to her lips.

"Spoilers!"

"No, but you told the Doctor you'd see him again when the Pandorica opens," Amy told her as she followed her.

"Maybe I did. But I haven't yet. But I will have. Doctor, I'm picking up fry particles everywhere. Energy weapons discharged on this site." The Doctor jumped onto a rock that lay on its front.

"If the Pandorica is here, it contains the mightiest warrior in history. Now, half the galaxy would want a piece of that. Maybe even fight over it." The Doctor jumped off the rock, placing his ear to it. "We need to get down there."

It was now night and there were lights everywhere. "Right then. Ready." River said after placing four things on the rock. With a press of a button, it began to open revealing a staircase.

River shined her torch down the stairs before the Doctor walked closer to it. "The underhenge." He walked down the staircase followed by Eve, River, and Amy.

Eve stopped before entering the Underhenge, she felt as if they were missing something. Something big. She shook it off before following the trio underground.
