Chapter 9: Lose-lose Situation

CHAPTER 9

I didn’t have a choice but to stay. There were seven of us in the table. Si Tito, umupo sa “head” chair. Sam sat between Louis and Tita. Sa left side ni Tito umupo si Jeric.

“Diyan ka na.” Louis told me pointing at the seat beside his Kuya. I sat down at pinagitnaan nila ako nina Louis at Jeric.

“Sam’s been waiting for you to come back at home.” Tita said.

“Yes! And Kuya Jeric too!” Sam said.

“Kamusta nab a kayo ni Jeric?” Tito asked.

Bigla akong kinabahan sa tanong na iyon. I’m really avoiding getting to that issue, pero paano naman if we’re sitting in one table and there’s nothing to talk about to.

“Uhh..” I I started.

“Okay lang kami.” Sabay naming sabi ni Captain.

“Ehem.” Louis interrupted. Si Miguel nalang natatwa sa ka-awkwardan naming I texted Alex, dahil wala na akong malabasan ng nararamdaman ditto. There were butterflies all over my stomach.

Oh shit. Saw Jeric’s family here at ATC. Please do get me out of here. Just awkward.

Napakabihirang magsalita ni Captain. We’re both quiet, and spoke limited words. The dinner went so fast. Sinabay nila ako papunta sa bahay nila since I promised Sam that I would play with her and her baby doll. So, basically, I only get to talk to Sam all through out the day and night. I didn’t kept track of time, para bang tinatakbuhan ako ng oras eh. But, I enjoyed Sam’s company since she’s very adorable. Buong hapon ata kami naglalaro ni Sam. There were no interruptions. I didn’t see Tita and Tito roaming around their house. Yung tatlong lalaki naman, nagPS3 sa sala. So, kami lang talaga ang maingay sa sala. They treated me as one of the family member, they did even served merienda and dinner. Very accommodating indeed. Tita baked fresh bread for merienda, at sobrang sarap at lambot niya. Daig pa ang iba’t ibang high-end bread shops. Inabot na ako ng dinner sakanila and that;s the only time again that I get to see everyone’s faces in the table. Hindi pa rin nagpaawat si Sam sa paglalaro kaya tuloy pa rin kami. Hindi ata nauubusan ng energy ‘tong si Sam eh. At, with all fairness, hindi rin nawala sa kinauupuan nila sina Captain. PS3 all the way. Louis even asked me to join them, pero, no thanks. Mahina ako sa mga ganyan, ditto nalang ako kay Sam. :-)

It was already 10 pm. I just wondered why my mother didn’t bother asking me where ma I. Nevertheless, I should be going anytime. Sam was already prepared to bed. She kissed me goodnight and told me that it’s bedtime. She wants me to sleep with her but I just told her that I’ll try some other time. I stood out the sofa and approached Tita in the kitchen.

“Tita, mauna nap o sana ako. It’s getting late na rin po eh.”

“Ay, oo nga. 10 na pala. Pahatid na kita kay Jeric. Ang layo pa ng uuwian mo oh.”

“Hindi nap o, okay lang po ako.” Mabilis kong sagot.

“Ay nako, hindi pwede.” She insisted.

“Jeric!” Tita called.

Dali-dali naming pumunta tong si Captain. “Ma?”

“Ihatid mo na ‘tong si Denise sakanila ah.”

“Di na, Jeric, kayak o na.” I insisted.

“Sige na, baka gabihin pa kayo lalo.” Tita continued like I never said something.

“Tara.” Captain said.

Wala na akong nagawa. I bid my goodbyes to the whole family. Sam is fast asleep kaya I just kissed her goodnight. We went out of their door and ride in Captain’s Jazz. It’s been a while since I have last been here. We we’re both quiet inside the car. All I can here is the engine of the car and the horns of other cars. Hindi ko alam bakit hindi man lang niy in-on yung radio. He decided to take EDSA going to our home, kaya ayun, sobrang traffic. To the point na hindi gumagalaw.
