TW- nightmare

"Hola, mija..."

Robby steps in front of me, putting something between me and the man standing just feet away. My entire body shakes violently. No. I'm not letting my dad hurt anyone else. Despite the fact that I feel absolutely sick to my stomach and may simply collapse at any moment, I set the second place trophy, Señor Dragón de Karate, and my gear bag on the ground, pushing Robby behind me and holding out a protective arm, ready to grab him and run the second my father tries to hurt either of us in any capacity. My heart pounds hard in my chest and cheek, which throbs with pain that I can finally feel.

"Parker..."

"Don't 'Parker' me," I say, attempting to keep my voice steady, but it shakes with anger and fear despite my efforts, "when I was in that hospital room, I told you to stay out of it and my life. I meant it."

"That was nine months ago; you were distraught-"

"So you think you can come back here and then gaslight me into thinking that I should trust you?" I ask, backing away into Robby as he advances towards me.

"Mija-"

"Stop calling me that! Stop! I was only your daughter when it was convenient for you! You never cared about me! I'm sick and tired of you ruining my life!" I exclaim. He takes another pleading step towards me. But I don't freeze like I have in the past. I don't cower away. Instead, as his foot reaches the ground, I slip my ankle around his, put a hand on his shoulder, and push as hard as I can while I take his foot out from under him.

He goes crashing to the ground. I seize the opportunity to grab my stuff and run to my room. I know Robby is hot on my heels. As soon as we both make it, I slam the door shut, lock it, then immediately start looking around for something to barricade the door with, frantically deciding on the desk and starting to drag it in that direction.

But Robby stops me.

He puts a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"Park," he says, voice soft, "it's okay. The door is locked."

Tears spring to my eyes as I shake my head no.

"No... it's not enough, it's not- he could- he could just break the lock- just like... just like last time..." I say, looking back down at the desk once more, making to continue my task. He takes my hands off of it, holding them in his own.

"This isn't last time," is all he says. And it sends me over the edge. I completely break down again, sinking down to the ground, Robby following in suit. He's right... he's right... it's hard to believe it's been almost a year since I ran away from my house and showed up on the LaRusso's doorstep... and now the person I ran away from what feels like so long ago is back... this apartment was a fresh start for me. It wasn't tainted with the trauma of the past. It's never reeked of alcohol. Never been a space that I've felt I had to barricade the door to my bedroom just in case something were to happen while I was trying to sleep. And now..? Now all of that has been flipped on its head.
