It's the only option we have

Rhea's POV:

The following days are stressful. I tried contacting Y/N many times but she hasn't been answering my calls (or my messages, for that matter). Not only that, everywhere I go I get showered with questions about the 'mysterious girl seen with Rhea Ripley'. I saw some people on twitter commenting about Y/N. Apparently they found out she was working with us and some fans were actually not happy about it, saying that I deserved better. It made me so mad, I'm the only one who knows what I deserve and if I'm drooling over Y/N it's because of how amazing she is.

Even if she still left me in the dark. I wonder if this buzz has anything to do with her recent skittish behavior. I hope not.

Jennifer, my personal assistant, comes to me and tells me that this situation is turning into an image crisis.

"Jennifer, we've done nothing wrong!" I tell her for what feels like the millionth time as we walk to the meeting we're having with Y/N's agency.

"Whatever makes you sleep at night, Bennett." Her annoyed tone makes me even more pissed.

Y/N's POV:

As if you didn't feel like shit before, now you surely did.

The next few days don't get any better, especially when you find your team was going to have a meeting with WWE Marketing, including the Judgement Day and their personal assistants. Which means Jennifer will be there, and you two don't get along too well, Rhea always had to defend you from her somehow.

When your part of the presentation comes up, you try not to look too much at the direction Rhea is seated. You noticed she has dark circles under her eyes though, and no matter how despicable it is, you're kind of relieved to see you're not the only one struggling. You present the data you have and sit down again and after everything is finished, you, Robert,Jennifer and Rhea stay in the room to talk about the 'PR crisis' your relationship created.

"Before we start, I'd just like to inform you that due to inappropriate behavior Y/N position is under analysis and therefore she'll no longer be a part of the team working with the Judgement Day anymore." Robert says and you can see a small smile creep on Jennifer's face. Bitch. You feel the weight of Rhea's blue eyes staring at you. You're trying to stay calm. Everything is a lot right now. "But despite that, we still have to discuss the contingency plan."

The conversation gets heated up between Jennifer and Robert while you and Rhea just listen. You think you might draw blood from your palms due to the way your pressing your nails in them.

Ever since your 'dismissal-scare meeting', how you like to call it the meeting you had with the HR lady and Robert, you have been cooking an idea. You could feel your heart ache just by the thought of it, but it could work. The pain is the proof it can work. Not only that, Jennifer would say yes to anything that would make you squirm, but also you would do whatever it takes to avoid fucking things up for Rhea.

Even if it means you'll have to put the sword a little more in your own heart with every step you take. Back when you were preparing this whole insanity, you thought to yourself a thousand times "I'm already a mess. there's not a lot more damage that can be done, right?"

Wrong, twist the blade. And that's exactly what's going to happen with you having to present this idea in front of Rhea. You can only hope she won't hate you so much after this.

"Guys, but what if we use this in our favor?"

"How Y/N? Literally, how?" Jennifer is pouring stress in every word.

"The reports showed that the most engaging part of her audience is the LGBTQIA+ community. Why don't we show them Rhea Ripley is a part of it too?" You're just numb at this point. However, the idea catches their attention.

"Y/N-" Rhea starts but gets interrupted by her PA.

"No, let her speak."

You explain how the idea could work, giving examples and pointing out good marketing strategies. Somehow, you managed to shut down all your feelings at this point, talking purely strategy. Maybe it's the lack of sleep, or the pill you slipped into your coffee. But no one needs to know that.

Jennifer and Robert were into it. Rhea, however, seemed like she could start crying from frustration at any second. You try your best to avoid her stare.

"Ok so let me get this straight. You want to come more to the spotlight to simply prove a point?"

"I never said that. I was thinking about someone from WWE, actually Cathy, Samantha, Liv, even-."

"Y/N, no, I'm not doing this. This is insane." She laughs in desperation, interrupting you.

"Rhea... please?" You look at her practically begging and right there she understands : you're trying so hard to erase yourself because you're on hook, if you didn't, they would fire you.

She sighs, pulling her hair so strongly you fear she may rip some parts off. She lets out a shaky breath.

"If it's the only option we have." Rhea locks eyes with you. "I only have one request, though, Y/N has to stay on the team."

They tried to argue with her but Rhea didn't bulge. You were surprised to see Robert and Jennifer agreeing on you participating only in controlled environments. No more Monday night Raw and no more big events for you.

Rhea's POV:

This stupid meeting finally ends after the details are set. So this is what she meant that night. She was on the cutting board because of me.

"Thank you for your time for this meeting-" I don't even wait for Y/N's manager to finish before leaving the room. What the fuck?

"Rhea." I feel Y/N's cold fingers on my arm pulling me into the closest bathroom and closing the door.

"Why didn't you tell me?!" I say loudly and I see her shrink a little, pulling her hand away. "Sorry." She knows what I'm talking about m. We both still remember how our last night together ended.

"I wanted to tell you, so bad! But you were rarely here and it was so good when we were together and I-i just wanted to enjoy it while it lasted! Before it..." Her voice dies down as if she spoke too much.

"Before what?"

"Before all of this shitshow."

"Y/N, you could've told me, you know that. I could have helped you."

"I'm sorry! I thought that if I just cutted things off, like ripping a bandaid. And-and I wouldn't be working with you anymore so it would be easier." She stumbles on every word, I could see how stressed everything was making her.

"Easier to whom?" I'm only a few inches away from her face, which is now stained with tears.

"I'm sorry! That last night we met I was gonna tell you! It was eating me alive, it really was! But I didn't wanna ruin the mood with my drama!"

"Still you should've told me! It's something that involves me! You cannot simply make decisions for both of us! It's so fucking selfish of you!" I shout back, walking from side to side in stress.

" I couldn't!" She shies away even more with every thing she says.

"That's it? You're saying you didn't tell me because you got stuck? And now I have to fake-flirt with someone I don't like?" I'm seeing red.

She stays silent with an empty expression. However, I can see the pieces of her breaking through her eyes. Her hands in fists so tight her knuckles are turning white.

"You know what? I wish we never fucked." But not really. I'm only saying this out of frustration.

I leave the bathroom and go to the gym to blow off all this stress. So much for falling in love. They always say love is selfish, anyway.
