Sixteen

Clary was waiting for me at the Java shop with Simon. We were both working on our project for school. I was running late so I was trying to walk faster. My phone rang in my pocket as I answered it.

"I know, I know, I'm late," I laughed as I dodged a few people.

"Yeah, we are getting ready to leave," Clary spoke.

"I'm sorry I will be right there though. Would you be willing to wait?" I asked. She let out a long sigh.

"We will meet you halfway, is that alright?" I heard Simon's voice. I groaned and stopped running as I looked around.

"That's fine," I hung up. There was a noise behind me. It was like a low hiss. "Not again."

It was dark out. It was around six pm. I'd just gotten out of work. The thing grabbed my arm yanking me further into the alley. I pulled my knife from my pocket stabbing it into the creature's chest.

"Ah!" It shrieked.

I pulled the blade back and kicked the center of its chest as it stumbled further down the alley. I pressed my back against the brick wall looking at someone.

He let an arrow fly and the creature turned to orange dust. My chest rose and fell quickly as my pulse raced. I'd seen them before. There were three people. Teenagers

"It's you," The girl pointed. I walked forward grabbing my bag off the ground. They were familiar. I've seen them multiple times.

"Wait what?" The guy with the bow asked. He had dark hair and tattoos. They each had tattoos.

"Why do you always follow me around?" I adjusted my bag strap as I glared at him.

"We don't follow you." The dark-haired guy snapped.

"Usually people thank others for saving their lives." The blonde said. I stared at the bloody knife still gripped in my hand.

"That little thing won't do anything," The girl laughed.

"I've seen you all before. What do you just walk around at night? Are you like Batman or some shit?" I looked between the three of them.

"Why do you never freak out?" The guy asked. He put his bow back around his body.

"I used to," I shook my head.

"Huh?"

"Just leave me alone," I grumbled as I wiped the bloody knife on my black jeans.

"Well wait," The girl grabbed my arm. I could see the tattoos on her body. She wore revealing clothes. More than normal teenage girls. "What's your name?"

"Seriously, what kind of gang are you in?" I laughed and yanked my arm free.

"What kind of mundane is this? She has the sight but doesn't know anything. She's gotta be a downworlder?" The guy with the bow asked the other two.
