Trigger Warnings: Talk of Death of a child, family annihilation.

It was now the next day and Ryan was getting ready in his room. The previous night, Ryan and Emily were both exhausted so instead of hanging out in Ryan's room for a little bit, as they usually do. They both said goodnight and went to their separate rooms. Both falling into a deep slumber once their heads hit the pillows.

Ryan had finished buttoning up his shirt when there was a knock on his door. He checked his phone and saw it was about 5:20 A.M. Ryan was surprised he got up this early but with how tired he was, he figured his body rejuvenated quickly. He went and opened the door to see it was Emily with two coffee cups in her hand.

"What are you doing up so early?" Ryan asked as he opened the door and allowed Emily in. "Guess I went to bed early enough, I'm guessing you did too." Emily responded. "yeah, surprisingly enough." Ryan said, taking one of the cups from her hand and taking a sip.

"You actually came just in time, I was about to call Kelli." He added. Emily nodded, "I'm just gonna use the bathroom." She said. Ryan then went to his speed dial and dialed Kelli's number. She picked up on the third ring. "Morning, Ryan. Isn't it like 5 in the morning over there?" Kelli greeted and asked. "Yeah, but me and Emily went to bed exhausted so we got up early." Ryan explained.

"Ohh, you and Emily went to bed exhausted, I see." Kelli said. Ryan nodded, "Yeah, we went to our separate rooms and fell right to sleep." He said. Ryan didn't acknowledge what his mother-in-law was implying. Emily came out of the bathroom then. "Are the kids free to talk?" He asked.

"Yeah, kids, guess who's on the phone." Ryan heard Kelli call out over the phone. He heard Squealing on the other end, by Emily's giggling he was sure she heard it too. Soon two voices came on, "Hi daddy." They said. "Hey pals, did you have a good night?" Ryan asked. "Yeah, I dreamt that I was in the NBA, Daddy." Tyler said.

Ryan laughed, "Sounds like quite a dream bud, what about you Emma?" He asked. "I dreamed that I was a princess riding a pony." Emma said. Ryan and Emily who heard that part laughed aloud. "Is Emily with you?" Emma then asked. Ryan put the phone on speaker.

"Yeah she's here." He said. "Hi angels, how's your morning going?" She asked. "Good." They both said. "Emily, is it really hot in California?" Emma asked. Emily laughed, "It can be. But it's not so bad where we are right now." She said.

"My friend Tommy said it can get up to 100 degrees there." Tyler said. "Yeah it can, but it's not right now." Ryan said. "Do you guys think you can bring me something from California?" Emma asked. Ryan and Emily gave each other amused looks.

"What exactly do you want us to bring you?" Emily asked. "A present." The four year old responded. "Okay I think it's time for you kids to get ready for school." Ryan and Emily heard Kelli say. "Bye Daddy, Emily we love you." Tyler said with Emma saying the same. Both Emily and Ryan froze at that a little bit. "We love you too angels." Emily said.

Ryan hung up after that. He looked towards Emily to find her having a face that looked deep in thought. That was the first thing time the kids had ever said I love you to Emily. He guessed she was more surprised than anything. Hell he was surprised at it. He knew that Emily was like a maternal figure in their life, but you could say he never thought about how far it would go. It at least he never allowed himself too.

"Are you okay?" Ryan asked. Emily didn't say anything for a few moments. "Never better." She finally said. She looked at him and have him a small smile. Ryan nodded, "You want to get breakfast and wait for the others to get up." He asked. Emily nodded, "I'd like that." She said.
