"A rainy night, a long road, and you by my side. That's all I dream about."
Serena watched with an oppressive feeling as Nate disappeared from the room to buy them some time. There was something final about his disappearance and she would have liked to bury her head in her hands to get a clear thought first. But they didn't have time.
Unlike her, however, Edmund seemed to have a plan and hurriedly rummaged around in his bag before holding out his dirty Quidditch cloak to her. "Put this on."
The girl did as she was asked and hurriedly pulled the far too large uniform over her clothes. Meanwhile, he had stepped closer and started to tuck her hair under the helmet he had put on her, which now slipped loosely over her head. Serena scowled at him, but his grin revealed that he was pleased with the results, "Green suits you."
"And you think this will work?" she asked, still not entirely convinced, looking down at the cloak dragging on the floor. But she didn't have a better idea herself.
"I guess we're about to find out," he replied, nodding towards the door, where footsteps were clearly approaching, clearly belonging to shoes with heels. "Just try to keep your head down."
Serena nodded, shouldered her bag, gathering her courage and followed him out of the room. Edmund's odour and that of mud lingered in her nose throughout the entire procedure. Not once did she look up, but the total of five pairs of shoes marching towards the cup room tightened her chest and made her hope that they wouldn't look twice at the little Slytherin girl in the Quidditch uniform.
"Good evening Professor, Minister, Shacklebolt, Williams, Bredshire," she heard Edmund say with a coaxing undertone and at the sound of a name, she couldn't help but raise her head cautiously. Her eyes met Kingsley Shacklebolt's for help, and he shook his head imperceptibly, clearly telling her to move on. Serena pressed both lips together and turned away. She really had to leave, the situation was probably more serious than she had realised.
Fortunately, none of the other Ministry wizards seemed to have noticed their presence and so the two managed to disappear around the next corner before sprinting off, leaving the threat behind them for the time being. But it certainly wouldn't be long before a manhunt was launched as soon as it became clear that she had escaped.
"What do we do now?" Serena asked in a trembling voice after they had made it out of the castle unnoticed and were now standing somewhat haphazardly in front of the portal.
"At least we can't stay here and the way towards Hogsmeade would be too dangerous, that's where they would look first," the Slytherin replied and ran his fingers through his hair. At that moment, she admired him for being able to keep a cool head and for already having some kind of overview of the situation. She herself had not the slightest idea what to do with her and would probably be in the hands of the Ministry by now. Edmund paused for a moment before looking at her carefully, "You remember my shortcut last year?"
