—————————————————————"Tom." Dumbledore nodded, "How excellent it is that you were able to find time in your busy schedule to attend our meeting this morning."
"Dumbledore," Tom sneered, ".......What's this?" He asked as he held the letter up.
"I was hoping you could tell us." Dumbledore replied, "You see, Tom, to my knowledge you were the only survivor in your immediate family on that day, so many years ago now......."
Tom glanced at the letter again and hurriedly committed the address of Bethany Jane Riddle to memory.
"To my knowledge, I am." He lied as he silently recalculated his original plan concerning Dumbledore, ".....But Riddle is a common last name, it must be a coincidence."
The two men stared at each other as a tense silence lingered ominously in the room.
Snape and McGonagall exchanged anxious glances.
"........Apparently it is." Dumbledore finally replied, "Shall we begin our meeting, Minister?"
As Tom nodded, McGonagall and Snape left the room, but not before Tom returned Bethany Riddle's Hogwarts letter to his old professor's careful hands.
The crooked smile he flashed McGonagall sent her frowning as she walked away, but what struck her the most was that she could not determine if Tom had managed to inspire fear in her heart....or pity.

As soon as his meeting was finished, Tom hurried to retrieve the Invisibility Cloak.
He designated the rest of his duties for the day to his various heads of staff and then immediately apparated to the address that had been shown on that promising letter.
Once he landed, he quickly threw the cloak over himself as he wandered from window to window while he peered into the house to see and learn all that he could.
By that time, it was late in the afternoon.
In one window, Tom spied a woman lying in bed.
His eyes narrowed at how frail and pale she seemed.
He noticed the scarf that covered her head while he watched her sleep for several moments.
As his gaze moved around the room, he saw the many, little bottles that covered the tops of the dresser and nightstand.
Silently, Tom moved to another window, then another and another......
On his fourth try, her found a little girl sitting in front of a muggle television.
His lips wrinkled in disgust.
Immediatley, his gaze thickened with disdain as he silently criticized everything about the humble dwelling.
It was small, simple, and presumably.......
The front door opened just then and in walked Tom's only living child.
His eyes narrowed to slits as he snarled at Mark.
.........Muggle.
Tom watched the little girl look over, leap to her feet, and race to hug Mark.
A cruel smirk curled his lips as he made himself comfortable and prepared to wait.
Everyone went to bed eventually, especially squibs, their bodies weak, their minds easily fatigued, or so Tom believed.
