All Night Long

Max lay down, pressing his body as low to the ground as he could go, making himself as small a target as possible. If that Suchomimus spotted him, that would likely be the end of him. As he watched the animal, observing as it dug its long snout into the dead Hippo's body, his mind pictured it all for him. Surviving everything that had ever happened to him, making it all this way, only to finally be killed by a Suchomimus in the middle of the night.

The mere thought made him sick. He couldn't let that happen.

He couldn't let it all be for nothing.

"I have to get out of here," he whispered to himself. "Or signal the others". Those were his only options. He quickly dashed the thought of making his way back on his own. He had no idea where the others were, and walking through the wilderness in the dead of night was a terrible idea. He had no idea what else was out here. "Signal for help, it is," he decided.

His eyes turned to the boat shack nearby, then back to the Suchomimus, standing nearby. Max quelled his nerves, and began carefully crawling on his stomach through the bushes towards the shack. He heard the animal snarl, causing him to freeze as his head snapped to the Dinosaur again.

He watched the creature shake its body, droplets of water onto the ground, before it dove right back into the corpse. Max took a deep breath and kept crawling. Once he made it to the shack, he got up onto his hands and knees and crawled onto the wooden floorboards, very carefully making his way towards the bar. He put himself behind the counter, then began searching through the shelves for anything helpful.

Nothing. Just a bunch of useless bottles and other random items he had no idea were used for. Cautiously, he peeked his head over the top of the counter, his eyes quickly scanning the area for the Suchomimus. It didn't take long for him to spot, now by the river, gulping down the running water.

His eyes drifted to a small number of boxes and baskets next to it. A handful of their supplies they had left behind in the panic. Maybe, if he was lucky enough, there would be a flashlight in there somewhere.

With a new plan in his head, Max turned back to the Suchomimus and watched as it turned away from the river and lumbered over to a spot near the edge of the clearing. It stamped its feet, walking in circles for a second or two, then it lay down, lying on its stomach with its legs sticking otu from under it, its tail curled up like a cats.

Now was his chance.

Cautiously, he stood up and weaved through the bar, around tables and chairs and tip toeing down the stairs and creeping towards the boxes. His eyes never left the sleeping Dinosaur, despite keeping it at such a distance from him.

He had been so focused on the sleeping creature that he didn't notice he had made it to the boxes until he had nearly stepped into the river. He quickly knelt down and rummaged through the boxes, searching for thing that would be his saving grace.

He smiled as he pulled out a flash light. He covered the light with his hand and flicked it on. The warmth that hit his hand told him it was working. Switching it off again and taking his hand off the bulb, he looked around for the next phase of his plan. He had to get somewhere where the others would see this light and know where he was.

But... He turned back to the sleeping Dinosaur. He couldn't just lead them all right back into the Suchomimus, he'd have to get away from here before signalling. But as he already decided, walking aimlessly into the dark was a bad idea.

He froze as he watched the Suchomimus' mouth open in a wide yawn, showing off its many teeth. He certainly couldn't stay here, either. What to do?

Suddenly, his ears perked up as he heard something moving nearby. Something was moving through the jungle nearby, and they weren't being quiet about it. Max turned towards the noise, peering into the dark. He felt a small ache behind his eyes as he watched his world light up, suddenly able to see a whole lot more. Thankfully, this ability hadn't been affected.
