Chapter 10: Tumbler Cup

Kyla's.

Aleign ordered two carbonaras with garlic bread for the both of us. In-order ko na din ang coffee-ala-Jake dahil sabi ni Jake, libre niya na sa'kin 'yon. Pumayag na lang ako dahil sayang din ang offer niya. 

And I can't help but to savour the taste of the coffee in my mouth. Nag-improve ang lasa nito kaysa dati noong high school pa lang ako. Two years had passed since the last time I tasted Jake's first brewed coffee. 

Maswerteng babae nga siguro ako dahil ako ang unang nakatikim ng una niyang kape. I looked at his direction and he's talking with his staff. 

Wala ba kong ibang gagawin sa café niya kundi tingnan lang siya? Naalala ko kasi bigla ang nakapaskil sa labas.

Should I apply? Should I give it a try? I never thought it could be this frustrating to think about it. 

This won't be frustrating kung hindi ko pagaganahin ang kaartehan ko. Bulong ng kabilang bahagi ng isip ko na inirapan ko lang.

Sumisipsip na lang ulit ako sa kape and ironic may it seem but it somehow washes away my anxieties. Eh sa pagkakaalam ko, kapag uminom ka ng kape, mas lalo kang nenerbyosin. 

Pero hindi ko iyon naramdaman sa kape ni Jake. I actually like the mixture of bitterness and sweetness in it. Makes me want to sip more. 

Aleign got her favorite frappe here, iyong chocolate cnc frappe. It was a chocolate frappe whipped with cookies 'n cream on the top. 

I also enjoyed the carbonara, sobrang sarap ng sauce at malambot ang pasta. I also like the way the ham was cooked. Very tender.

"I forgot to informed you about this, Kyla but…" ngiting-ngiti banggit ni Aleign. "Brace yourself," huminga siya ng malalim habang malapad pa rin ang ngiti niya. Hinawakan niya ng mahigpit ang kamay ko. "I am now the new leader of the musical department." 

"Oh my God," bulalas ko agad at napatakip pa sa bibig. 

"Yes. I can't believe it." 

"Me too! But, omg, congrats! You really deserve it, Aleign," naghawakan kami ng kamay sa lamesa habang pinipisil ko ang kaniya. We did it for a couple of seconds before letting go of each other. "But… wait, sure naman akong hindi ako ilang taong nawala, pano nangyari 'yun sa wala pang isang araw?" I curiously asked.

Kwinento niya naman ang nangyari kanina habang wala ako sa room at nakinig lang ako habang napapatango at napapangiti. I am really proud of her and I know she'll do good in her new responsibility. I will just support her every step of the way. 

"I'm so happy for you, Lei," I smiled heartily at teary-eye naman siya ngayon. 

"Thank you, Kyla! Magtatanong ako kay coach kung pwede kitang isama sa mga trainings ko para makapasok ka rin sa music room. I swear, all of the members are so nice, you'll get along with them too." 

Nawala ang ngiti sa labi ko nang may ma-realize bigla.

"I'm sorry if I can't," ngumiti ako ng malungkot. 

"Why?" nangunot ang noo niya. 

"I need to work, Aleign. Ayoko na umasa kay Daddy," sabi ko habang hinahalo ang carbonara gamit ang tinidor.

"But, where will you work? Mahirap maging part-time student, Kyla, most especially in your part. Are you sure you can balance your study and work?" 

Biglang naging seryoso ang atmosphere sa'ming dalawa at hindi ako nakasagot kay Aleign. Pinag-isipan ko pa ng mabuti ang isasagot ko bago nag-angat ulit ng tingin sa kaniya.
