Chapter 45: Waiting

I've been so focused on my studies for the past weeks. Just like what I did before during Prelims, I always go home early to study and do my schoolworks. In the past couple of months, I never visited the café. Charlie and Aleign are asking me to join them, sometimes, but I always refuse.

I always make excuses not to meet him… again. Para hindi ulit magtagpo ang landas namin. Para hindi ulit kami magkita. Kahit sobrang lapit niya lang at may posibilidad na magkita kami. Palagi kong iniiwasan ang pagkakataong iyon.

Magiging marupok na naman ang puso ko at iyon na ang iniiwasan kong mangyari. He never approached me, anyway, kaya hindi ako nahirapan sa paglayo sa kaniya. We lost communication. For real.

A month has passed, I didn't even notice that my birthday is already approaching.

Naging busy ako sa exams, hindi ko na napansin ang bagay na iyon. Uwian na nang yakapin ako ni Aleign galing sa likod.

"I'll miss you, Kylalaine! Three weeks din tayong hindi makakapagkita. Where will you spend your holidays?" she put his chin above my shoulder.

Naka-angat na ang baba niya sa balikat ko kaya hinayaan ko na lang habang naka-pulupot pa rin ang mga braso niya sa'kin.

"I have no idea. I lost track of the date, Aleign," I chuckled and turned at her. She then removed her arms around me.

"So, hindi mo rin alam na malapit na birthday mo?" she grinned.

"Hmm," nagkunwari pa akong napaisip. "Ngayon lang totally sumagi sa isip ko," I answered while clinging the sling bag in my shoulder.

Sabay kaming naglakad palabas ng room. "You know what? You've been studying hard since this semester started. Why don't you reward yourself?"

I haven't really thought of that. Basta isang araw, bigla ko na lang naisipan na pagbutihan na ang study habit ko. Hindi ko naisipan na bigyan ng regalo ang sarili ko dahil having good grades this semester is already a reward to me.

I still can't believe how good I improved. Well, College is really full of realizations.

"Come on. Let's go malling," she clung her arm into mine. "Maaga pa naman. Let's spend some time together before the holidays. Hindi na tayo makakapag-kita no'n."

She got a point. I am stressing myself for a while, I need a break. And I think now's the time.

"And advance celebration na rin para sa birthday mo," she nudged my elbow while smiling sheepishly.

"Matagal pa iyon, Aleign."

"Eh hindi naman tayo makakapag-kita nu'n. My parents want me to spend my holidays in the States. Baka may plano rin si Tito Alfred para sa birthday mo lalo na at debut mo 'yon. Kaya hindi talaga tayo makakapag-kita. Ngayon na lang natin i-celebrate."

I also want to have fun with her and she's right, we won't be together on my birthday so we better celebrate it now.  So, I agreed and she is really happy about it that she almost jumped in the middle of the hallway. Tinawanan ko iyon habang hila-hila niya ang aking kamay papunta sa kaniyang kotse.

"What do you want to do first?" she asked when we got inside her car.

"Shopping? Just like the old times? What do you think?" I answered and put on my seat belt.

"Totally missed it!" she exclaimed at may inabot na paper bag sa'kin galing sa likod ng kotse niya. "I brought some dresses. Let's change our clothes muna before entering the mall."

I accepted the paper bag and peeked the dresses inside. "You seem prepared, Aleign! You should've informed me about our gala, nakapag-prepare rin sana ako."
