A hiphop song played in the background when I entered inside the venue of Aleign's despedida party. I was holding my purse while walking gracefully in the middle of the carpet. All of our blockmates turned to look at me but my eyes were just directed at Aleign who was standing beside her parents while holding a wine glass.
Lumapit ako sa kanila at nag-beso kay Tita Leigh Anne. I also did the same to Tito Andrew.
"Kyla, dear, you came," pagbati ni Tita Leigh Anne sa'kin sa banayad na boses.
"Of course, Tita. How can I miss this extravagant party?" I giggled. "Have a safe flight tomorrow."
She smiled sweetly at me and brushed my long wavy hair. "Thank you. Enjoy the party, okay?" she gave me a quick kiss on my right cheek before leaving us.
"Kyla!~" Aleign went to me and hugged me.
I hugged her back with the same intensity. "You're really leaving tomorrow?" I pouted.
"Yes. My mom rescheduled it," malungkot din ang tono ng boses niya.
"Huwag ka na umalis," I whispered evilly.
Agad siyang humiwalay sa yakap at hinampas ako. "Don't act as if I won't be back."
"But a minute without you is like a whole day, Aleign. That's what I felt when you also left during vacation," malungkot kong pahayag.
She purred like a kitten. "That's sweet. But I need to leave."
"I know. A hard pill to swallow, I guess."
We chuckled and looked at the sea of people. They're all dancing in the music while a waiter walked past us and offered us a drink. Dahil ako lang ang walang wine glass, kumuha na rin ako sa tray ng waiter.
"Where's Charlie?" tanong ni Aleign nang sumisimsim ako sa wine.
I shooked my head. "We're not together."
Aleign sighed. "Kung anuman ang plano mo, huwag mo na ituloy. We talked about this, Kyla."
I raised my hand in surrender. "Chill. Wala akong sinabi kay Charlie, I swear. And the plan I am talking about is letting him decide what he'd do tonight. No utos involved," I assured her.
Pinanliitan niya 'ko ng mata na parang dudang-duda pa rin sa'kin. I clutched my chest and acted as if I was hurt.
"You don't trust me?" I asked dramatically.
"No, silly. Baka kasi may gawin siya ngayon tapos sinabi mo pala."
"I totally get your point, Aleign, and I didn't say anything to Charlie. Look. I didn't even asked him to fetch me. Magkahiwalay kaming pumunta rito at mas nauna lang ako."
Natulala na siya sa likod ko kaya nagtaka tuloy ako.
"Okay, fine. I believe you," sabi niya sa mahinang boses na parang wala pa sa sarili.
Due to curiosity, I also turned my head to look at the direction she was staring at. And, ooh, it's Charlie with his dashing tuxedo. Looking so gorgeous, huh.
His damp hair was brushed up on the side, exposing his forehead.
At nakita ko iyon… hindi ako ang tinitingnan niya kundi si Aleign. I bit my lower lip and stepped aside.
"Hi," he greeted Aleign with a smile on his face.
"Hi," bati rin ni Aleign habang magkatitigan lamang sila.
