Camila's POV
"Camila you need to come to the hospital immediately, it's David." Dinah said urgently over the phone.
"What happened, Dinah?" I asked.
"It's bad you just need to get down here." She said before hanging up.
She called while I was sleeping so I needed to get up to put clothing on. I nudged my boyfriend who was sleeping beside me.
"Shawn, wake up." I said to him.
He turned to look at me. "It's the middle of the night."
"David's in the hospital we have to go." I told him with haste pulling the covers off of us and getting out of the bed.
"What do you mean he's in the hospital?" He questioned sleepily.
"What do you think it means? Get up let's go." I had already gotten my pants on pulling on a shirt.
While I waited for Shawn and his snail pace I wondered about the severity of this. In all the years I have known David he was always in good health so I wondered what had happened.
Soon Shawn was done and we finally made it to the hospital. We were directed to a waiting room where I see all of my friends and they all looked extremely sad. Those faces weren't my concern though; I was looking for David's wife, Lauren, my best friend.
I spotted her she was holding her sleeping daughter in her arms while tears flowed down her face. I quickly made my way to her but Dinah stopped me before I could get to her.
"Dinah what are you doing?" I asked.
"It's really bad Camila; David was in a severe accident on the way home from work. They couldn't do anything to save him it was too late." She relayed.
I feel a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes but I held them in. I couldn't believe it; I turned my head to look at my friend holding her child.
"How is she taking it?" I asked.
"I don't think it's set in fully yet. But how do you think she feels she lived for him he was the love of her life." Dinah said.
"I'm going to see her." I said and she moved aside and I walked the rest of the way to her.
"Lauren." I said.
She looks at me her eyes plagued with sadness. "Camz." She sobs.
I pulled her into my arms immediately mindful of her daughter. "I'm so sorry sweetie." I said softly I had no idea what to say to her.
I just sat there and comforted her because Lauren wouldn't let me go anywhere and I will be by her side as long as she needed me and I vowed that right then and there.
...
It's been a week since David's funeral and I stayed true to my word with staying by Lauren's side she was my best friend and I knew that she would do the same for me. It was always like that between the two of us when something would happen we would always be there for each other, although this is the hardest thing that she has gone through. I didn't know what to say to her, I mean what can I say to someone who just lost the love of their life. So I didn't say anything not a word I just hugged her for as long as she needed that comfort I would hug her. It seemed to do the trick so that was what I was sticking with.
"Aunty Mila?" Lauren's daughter McKenzie said.
I looked at the little one. "Yes sweetie?"
"Where is mommy?" She asked.
