"What a cool painting,"

"Cool is an understatement, babe," I laughed, looking up at Tom. "Do you even know what the Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe is?"

His arms tightened around my waist. "I'm guessing that it's this painting, but I know absolutely nothing about it which is weird because you're an art geek,"

I brought my elbow back to hit his side. "It means The Luncheon on the Grass. It's one of the most popular paintings in Paris, other than the Mona Lisa of course. It was created by Édouard Manet in 1863 and was originally titled Le Bain, or The Bath. It took him a year to paint it. Manet received loads of criticism for it, before and after his time, loads of people not realizing what exactly the painting was saying-"

"Okay, beautiful, let me stop you right there," he interrupted "as much as I would absolutely love to hear more of your nerdy art talk, that weird play you want to see starts in about 20 minutes, so we should probably be heading out,"

My eyes rolled almost instantly at his words. "Vassilissa is not a weird play,"

"Whatever you say, nerd," he threw an arm over my shoulders, kissing the side of my head as we walked out of the exhibit.

The play was absolutely fascinating to me, but of course Tom was bored out of his mind, not completely understanding of the play's meaning. Tracing random shapes on my thigh, dropping his head on my shoulder and fiddling with my fingers, tapping his foot on the ground, all the things he did to avoid pulling his phone out.

"Tom, honey, please stop moving. You're making the rows behind us motion-sick," I whispered, placing a hand on his knee to stop his movements.

"Does this motherfucking play ever end?" he seethed quietly, slumping down in the uncomfortable theater seat.

I bit my bottom lip to stifle a laugh. "It's actually going to end in like five minutes. Thanks for being so patient,"

We were out of the building as soon as the curtains closed, the nighttime air forming chills on any uncovered skin.

"I told you to bring a sweater, dumbass," Tom let out a breathy laugh, tugging his hoodie off and over my shoulders. "I guess I'll just have to suffer,"

"It's because you love me," I stuck my tongue out at him, wrapping an arm around his hips. "And it's not like you didn't offer to do it. Where exactly are we going again?"

"What's the one place that people actually come to Paris for?" Tom asked simply.

I furrowed my brows and averted my gaze away from him, a tall line of lights catching my eye. "Oh wow,"

The Eiffel Tower sure was a sight to see up close. Pictures didn't do the thousand foot monument any justice.

"Tom..."

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" he spoke, staring at it with glimmering eyes. "Probably one of fourth most beautiful thing I can think of,"

"The fourth most?" I giggled, intertwining our fingers.

"Well, there's my mom. I have to put her first obviously. Then there's the sight of thousands of hockey fans in a sea of red cheering you on. And I guess you're pretty cute, too,"

"Pretty cute my ass," I joked. "You freaking love me,"

"Of course I do," he bit his lip hesitantly. "(Y/N), I have a question for you and you can take your time to answer it because it's a pretty big thing and I don't want to put you on spot like this, but... it's impossible for me to imagine my life with anyone else but you. The way you're so easily able to bring out the best of me is amazing and I really hope you feel the same way about me,"

"Tom, what-"

"I'm getting there," he chuckled, reaching into his back pocket. "(Y/N) (L/N), I know this is probably the cheesiest thing I've ever done, but would you do me the great honor of being my wife?"

"Are you serious?" I let out a shaky laugh through my tears. "You're crazy if you think I'd turn that offer down,"

The worry on his face dropped instantly as he slid the ring around my finger, standing up and pressing his lips to mine. People were cheering from just about anywhere I could see, the scattered flashes of cameras coming from all around us.

He pulled away and kissed my forehead. "What a way to spend the offseason, eh?"
