The unexplainable

Maya looks at the mirror and pulls a strand of hair behind her ear.

"You look great peaches." Riley smiles."Okay Lucas will be here any minute."

"Are you okay with this?"Maya looks at her dress.

"Yeah. I want you to be happy and if making josh jealous is a step to something then I'm all for it." Riley chuckles.

"You're the bestest friend anyone can ask for." Maya hugs her.

"Aww that's the nicest thing you've ever said." Riley jokes.

"Hey kiddos, that jake kid is at the door." Josh interrupts.

Maya turns around. "Oh shoot I forgot to put on earrings."

Josh's eyes widen. "You look really beautiful."

"No time for lies." Maya walks past him and heads for the door.

An hour later~

"You look very pretty Maya." Lucas smiles as he pulls her chair out for her to sit.

She blushes and sits down. She scoots in and looks over to where Joshua and Mariah are sitting.

Josh locks eyes with her and he waves. Maya fake smiles and waves back.

"Look if you want to make this look believable you have to play the part. Look at me at all times and avoid them. If your boing sees you watching him he's going to get suspicious." Lucas chuckles as he sits down, snapping Maya's attention away from josh.

"You sure you haven't did this before?"Maya teases.

He laughs and looks down at the menu. "Nope. But I'm glad my first undercover date is with a cute girl like you."

"Hitting on me already friar?" She smirks.

"Playing the part." His face reddens up.

"You're embarrassed. Does huckleberry have a crush on me?" She chuckles.

Before Lucas could say anything, Katy walks up to them. "Hi guys, what would you like?"

"I would like a steak taco and a water." Lucas smiles.

"I'll have the same." Maya looks at her.

"Okay, it'll be done in a few." Katy walks away.

"You never answered my question." She smirks.

"And I choose to avoid it."

A little while later Maya looks over at josh and catches him stare again.

"Lucas I think he keeps looking over here" she says surprised.

"Hold my hand." He puts his hand on the table over to hers.

She hesitates but takes his hand anyway.

"And act like you're having a really great time." Lucas fake laughs.

Maya nods and fake laughs with him. "Oh you're so cute." Maya smiles.

"No you are." Lucas teases.

Joshua gets up and puts his jacket on.

"Looks like they're leaving." Maya whispers.

"Let's wait a bit and then go." Lucas coughs.

Later~

Maya stops at Riley's apartment. "Thanks for this. It meant a lot."

"I had a great time." Lucas looks down at her.

"Me too." Maya whispers and starts to lean in.

Before they could even make a move on one another, a sound of a cough startles them, making them pull away.

Maya's eyes widen and notices that it's josh.

"What's going on?"Josh's voice cracks.

"Just walking this pretty little lady to the door." Lucas speaks up.

"Oh um josh this is Lucas."

He looks at her confused. "I thought his name was jake?"

"That's my name but I prefer Lucas since that's my middle name. I never liked the name jake." Lucas lies.

Josh raises a brow. "Okay? Well nice to meet you..Lucas."

"You too. Well goodnight Maya." He gives her a hug.

She hugs back. "Goodnight." She blushes.

Lucas walks away, leaving  josh and Maya standing there alone.

"You like that guy?" Josh scratches the back of his neck.

"Yeah he's accepting of who I am." She throws shade.

Josh rolls his eyes. "Well that's great. Glad you found someone."

"You sound a bit annoyed." She smirks.

"Nope just tired. I told Mariah that I loved her and she was pretty freaking happy. Everything's mutual."

Maya nods. "That's very nice josh. Maybe you two will get married and have babies together."

"I hope." He chuckles.

Maya frowns. "Goodbye josh." She turns around and walks away.

"When will I ever get a happy ending?" She mumbles to herself.
