IF I COULD MAKE YOU HAPPY

IF I COULD MAKE YOU HAPPY

Through the eye of a needle I’d squeeze for you

Through verdant forest and mountains I’d trek for you

Across snow bound wilderness I’d push and plough

If I thought it would make you happy

All my wealth I’d relinquish

All the clothes on my back

The car on my drive, you can have it

If I thought they would make you happy

My tears I will shed

My blood you can cipher

My body abuse and debase

If I thought it would make you happy

My life I’d give up

My senses surrendered

My soul as a gift

If I thought I could make you happy

Grind my bones to a pulp

Dismember my limbs

Pop my eyes clean out of their sockets

It’s all worthless

And useless

No point at all

If I can’t make you happy

On a plate you can have me

Trussed, oiled and bound

I would sacrifice all for your smile

But still

It won’t make you happy.
