WITHSTANDING THE STORM

I stand and watch the branches bow

Bending on command of the angry wind

Each limb arching to protect and embrace

The withstanding, neighbouring tree

Today no weakened bough will fall

As the trees stand firm and grand against the tumultuous, irascible storm

Defiant, proud and grounded in the earth.

And so I stand against this gruelling day

I will not bend, nor speak of defeat

No tear will drop from reddened eyes

The storms of life will not bow me

For I am loved and cannot fail

Embraced, enclosed, in mind and thought.

And so I stand (and smile) as I watch the branches bow

Knowing that I will never be commanded by an angry wind

And that I stand firm and grand against any tumultuous, irascible storm.
