THE TRUE FACE OF GOD

If you happened to look upon the face of God you might fail to recognise him

There would be no majesty, no blaze of dazzling glory to announce his arrival and glorious presence

For he may well be hidden in the face of a complete stranger

Or the wretched beggar in the street, the frightened little child abandoned in its pram

The poor starved dog kept in filth and squalor or the reserved, bullied colleague at work

Look hard if you wish to spy him for your eyes need to be open to his subtlety

Find him in the grateful smile of the haggard beggar as he reaches for a warm mug of sweet tea

Find him in the pitifully thin arms of the broken child rescued from loneliness and abuse

Find him in the wide petrified eyes of the tiny puppy plucked from a life of breeding and hardship

And find him in the embarrassed grin of the isolated colleague you take time to include in your lunchtime chat

For he is there in every act of compassion, every single rescue and each and every time you show warmth to those that suffer, be they humankind or animal

He is always watching and he can always be found

So look carefully, be kind to all who cross your path, and you will witness the true face of God.
