FACES
I sit and watch you from my chair
Cradling hot coffee in my hand
Each face I see is different
Yet fundamentally the same.
Some portray perfection
From the front and from the side
While others are quite curious
And catch my wandering eyes.
Some of you are old and worn
Jowly and quite jaded
While others painted, oh so bright
And others look a fright.
I watch you frown, smile and laugh
Animated, then quite serious
I’m fascinated (and intrigued) by your movement and expression.
It’s clear to me each face I see is very, very different
Yet to me you radiate, perfection and pure brilliance
The young, the old, the fresh and worn
You’re all uniquely beautiful
Yet every single one of you is, fundamentally the same.
