YOU SET MY SOUL FREE
How precious is the gentle smile that lights up your loving face?
Your manners are impeccable and full of warmth and grace
How big the tender beating heart that has space for wretched me
Allowing me to come within and setting my lost soul free
Your life was easy going, you had the choice to stay or roam
You sacrificed it all for me, your lifestyle and your home
I know that it’s been hard at times, sometimes very tough
But we got through, and stayed afloat, and survived it well enough
The odds were stacked against us, and by some we were dismissed
But our fate was signed and sealed from our very first brief kiss
Then there came a passion beyond all sanity and sense
And the consequences proved to be catastrophic and immense
But still we are together, despite all of our cares and woes
Why fate threw us together, only God and nature knows
But you are in my blood, my mind, I’m addicted to your presence
And you take all the good and bad, with a quiet, solid acceptance
You’ve proved that you will stand by me, no matter what I do
And by doing so you’ve shown the world that your love for me is true
I’m humbled by your faith in me, it is so blatantly underserved
Especially when I throw it back, and act like a complete jerk!
It’s hard to take this love from you, when I feel so dark inside
And you must feel rejected when I play at Jekyll and Hyde
But really all I want to say is thanks for your commitment and love
You pulled me back up from the dark so that we could blossom in the sunlight above.
