“Can you believe what Helen said?” Harry asked and I could hear the bliss in his voice through the phone.

The night before had been a real victory. Victory against my mother, but against our difference, the rejection, too. The two of us felt lightheaded, free, overwhelmed with happiness, since that night.

“It’s hard to believe, but we better believe her before she changes her mind.” I genuinely replied, waiting for Karl to open the door for me. I stepped into the building, Sethi’s building, as I spotted some journalists across the street. Thankfully, we had reached the noisy and crowded hall, away from the cameras.

The lack of time and the curious eyes urged me to take the lift to meet my mother. I still wondered why she asked me to come. I fast walked towards the lift. I fortunately reached one of the lifts before the door closed. I sighed in relief; as I pressed the button, to choose my mother’s floor.

“Do you think we can meet before I go or should I join you for lunch?” I asked Harry, hoping he did not cut the phone during my run towards the lift. Our works and studies had to tear us apart for a few months, which shouldn’t be fatal for a normal couple. But the reasons of my worry laid in our last separation. We had been torn apart in the worst condition for four days, and we reunited for a few hours to be ended up walking from each other, once again.

“We’ll meet, don’t worry.” He reassured. “I have to get to work, now.”
“See you tonight.” I murmured loud enough so he could hear me, preventing the person who shared the lift with me from hearing my personal conversation.

As I smiled against the phone, I made a few steps back.

“Where sh-” Before I could even finish my question, my body froze once I recognized the straight blond hair and the deep blue stare. Angelica. The only thing I could make, was to utter a good bye to Harry before shoving my phone in my bag.

My eyes studied her face to realize that she wasn’t surprised at all to see me in the lift, alone, with her. She had noticed my presence, earlier. She stood as still as I did, studying my face the way I studied hers. Her eyes had burning flames in them, reminding me that my happiness with Harry crushed her own happiness.

“I never got the chance to apologize, Angie.” I said, genuinely. Harry already apologized, but never did I. For the two last months, I had totally forgotten that Harry quitted her... for me. But that didn’t help me from feeling guilty.

She raised her eyebrow at me, patting her shoulder, showing her discomfort.

“For what do you want to apologize?” she asked, which astounded me. I couldn’t even find the words that she replied to her own question. “For the fact that you betrayed me? We were friends! Or for the fact that you pushed Harry to be with me, while you wanted him?”

Even though I could argue with some of her affirmations, I nodded at her words. If there was someone in the world I hurt the most, it could be none other but Angelica. From the first day we met, she had been generous and kind with me, while the rest of the world hated me. But I had never been up to her friendliness.

“I’m so sorry it had to happen like that.” I said apologetically. But the truth remained that if Angelica and Harry had never been together, Harry and I would have never existed. Life is cruel, but everything comes for a reason. “Someday, you’ll find the one meant for you.”

I could not believe the words I had just said. Something had possessed me since the day I met Harry. Something with a kindly heart, something that audaciously spoke... something that believed in love. My own words revealed that I considered Harry as the one meant for me. We had been together for one month or so, but it felt like he had been there for me since our first encounter. He was meant for me...?
