❝Night fell upon the island once more and the waves were as quiet as always. However, the thunderous festivities did not subside this night nor the next, because the people had all endured for this moment. They had endured everything in order to laugh again.❞

You wake up, stretching and yawning. Slowly, you try to lift your leg and seeing how you do not feel any major pain, you decide to get on your feet. Loud music, singing and cheering could be heard even from the inside of the infirmary. You are not quite sure for how long you have been sleeping.

"Y/N, can you stand already?"

You look around in the darkness and spot Nami on the other side of the room. "Yes, I feel a lot better." You notice the bandages on her left shoulder. "Did you get hurt?"

"Oh, this," she says and laughs. "I got a new tattoo to commemorate this island's freedom." Lightly brushing over her shoulder, she looks out the window at the night sky. "I'm sure Bellemere would've been proud," she whispers.

You nod and walk up to her. After grabbing her hand you lead her out the door. "She's definitely happy for everyone. That's why you should go out and celebrate with everyone."

At first, she was a bit reluctant to go, but hearing your words cheered her up. A smile spreads on her face. "Alright! I guess that makes sense," she giggles. Satisfied with her decision, you nod again and let go of her hand. "But only if you celebrate with me!" Not leaving you any time to respond or react, she grabs your hand again and sprints towards the village centre.

With Nami running so suddenly, you almost tripped over your own feet. This was not what you expected your night would be like, but when you saw all the lights and decorations scattered over the plaza, excitement rushed through your whole body. People came up to you with food and drinks, they were dancing and laughing, completely overjoyed. You got swept up by their happiness and joined them.

The night flew by like this...

"You've been sulking ever since we got on board," Usopp remarks. Your chin rests on your crossed arms which look like they are glued to the railing of the ship.

"It felt like a second," you mumble.

"Ah, this again," he sighs. "Don't worry, we'll have plenty of opportunities to celebrate the greatness of Captain Usopp! Haha!" You swear you could see his nose growing longer when he posed and bragged. "Anyway, have you seen Nami since last night? She hasn't come yet."

You finally stand up straight, wondering where she might be. All the villagers are gathered at the port, waiting for her to say their thanks and goodbyes. Suddenly, a loud voice is heard from the distance.

"Set sail!"

With incredible speed, Nami runs past all the villagers and leaps from the ground. With widened eyes, you watch her cross a great distance and land perfectly onto the ship. Everyone's mouths are open in shock when they realise that Nami is going to leave without them being able to say anything. But on top of everyone's surprise, she when she lifts her shirt up a little, dozens of wallets drop onto the deck.

"Take care, everyone," she says with a cheeky grin.

Although speechless for a moment, at the end, the baffled villagers manage to scream their thoughts at her. "You rotten little thief!"

You immediately burst out in laughter

You immediately burst out in laughter. Nami's amazing exit and the expressions she left behind are way too funny. Together with Nami, you cheerfully wave goodbye at them and you looked back the island until it was too small to see.

❝The skies are clear and the winds are mild. Perfect weather for a pinwheel to spin.❞

"Keep your hands off!" Sanji shouts and kicks Luffy away. "These are Nami's beloved orange trees! I won't allow anyone to lay a single finger on them!"

"Oh, come on! How come I can't have at least one?" Luffy protests. "You've been giving Y/N a ton of them!"

"That's because the vitamins are good for healing bruises!"

You chuckle while listening to them argue. Sanji has been trying to keep Luffy in place when it comes to food consumption ever since you set sail. You are sitting on the railing, enjoying the light breeze. After Nami went to get a newspaper, she hands you another ripe orange and tells you to keep eating them until the bruise is gone.

"That's so unfair!" Luffy whines.

Seeing him pout like that you gesture him to come over. "Here, I'll share it with you." He rejoices and runs to you. You reach out your hand with half a peeled orange. He opens his mouth widely, wanting to eat the half whole but you quickly retract your hand.

"Not all at once. No wonder they don't want you to eat it. You should enjoy it," you explain while splitting his half into pieces.

"Does that really matter?" he asks a bit annoyed.

"Oh, yes. It makes huge a difference." After putting a piece into his mouth you eat one yourself before giving him another piece. You could see his expression changing when he tries to chew it as slowly as possible to keep up with your pace.

When you two finish eating the orange, Luffy seems content and sits down on the railing next to you. "You're right! Eating it this way is more fun, from now on I should always eat with you," he says and laughs.

Although Zoro is resting on the other side of the ship with his eyes closed, he could still hear what his captain and you were up to. "Tch." He rolls over, trying to ignore how irritated he feels.

When Nami flips a page of the newspaper, something comes fluttering down. Luffy screams the moment he realises what that piece of paper is.

"My wanted poster!" He holds it up, jumping around and laughing full of pride. "It says 30 million bellies!" The smile on his face is as big as the one on the flyer. The moods of the other crewmembers are all different. One is proud, one is sulky, one is indifferent and another one is worried.

In the middle of cheers and worries, Zoro points out to the sea, grabbing everyone's attention.

"There is an island up ahead."

Hello, everyone!

This arc has come to an end~ I have to say Nami's arc is one of my favourites! I remember crying so much back when I first saw it. When I looked at it the second time as a writing reference I felt this tingling in my heart... it's incredible (๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)

By the way, the text between those quotation marks (❝ ❞) are quotes from the English translation of the manga. I felt they were really beautiful and a perfect way to end the arc.

We've reached chapter 40! Wohoo! That's a lot of chapters haha! (・ัᗜ・ั)و But don't worry, there are many more to come!

Until next time...
