Chapter 53 | Reverse Fever

The constant stream of fire bursting from your hands soon melts the spinning tower of wax like butter. The whole structure caught on fire which made the members from Baroque Works cower in fear. You carefully observe the figures of the crew members, waiting for the exact moment you have to stop your ability. When the time came, the heat stopped and you landed gracefully on the ground next to Nami and Vivi. With the Straw-hats outnumbering the enemy, they are quickly defeated.

Sanji's mouth hung wide open throughout this. He could not quite comprehend what he just saw and he is not sure if the others witnessed the same thing he did because they are visibly not as shaken as he was. The only one who seems to have the same reaction as he does is Usopp.

"W-What was that... j-just now?!" he falls back and stutters, pointing at the melted wax. You feel the energy escaping your body and you could barely stand straight. Lying down on the grass, you take a few deep breaths, not bothering to give Usopp an answer.

"That. Was. So. Cool!" Luffy gushes and starts imitating your pose.

"At this point, I shouldn't even be surprised anymore by what Y/N can do," Nami says and shrugs. "But I have to admit that was quite helpful."

Zoro sits down next to you and puts his swords down. "Another one of your surprises?" he asks with a smirk painted on his face. "This one is a bit dangerous, though."

"I still... have a lot... in me," you answer in-between breaths.

"Y/N! Are you alright?" Vivi kneels down to you. "What you did was on a whole different level!" Her hair looks dishevelled and she is panting as well. In fact, everyone looks like they have been through a hell of a fight. That makes you feel sorry for not finding out that there were enemies on this island sooner.

"Ah!" Something crosses your mind. "That's right, Sanji and I found an important item in the forest."

Upon hearing his name, Sanji snaps out of his puzzled state and hurries to his crew. With a proud look on his face, he presents them the eternal pose to Alabasta. "Luckily, we don't need to stay a year," you add.

Everyone's faces light up, throwing their hands up in the air. "Thank you so much!" Vivi suddenly gives both you and Sanji a tight hug. "I was so worried about what to do." You laugh awkwardly at her affection and Sanji is visibly enjoying this hug more than he should.

"Carue, let's give Y/N a ride back to the ship for all the hard work!" She suggests and Carue quacks in approval.

"What? Wait," you quickly say while recalling the last time you sat on the duck's back. Just thinking about it makes your head spin. "I'm quite fine with walking." But before you could even stand up properly, you are lifted up from the ground and put on the saddle of the bird.

"Let's go!" Luffy shouts and hops on after you.

Why is this happening again?

"Come on Y/N! The ride wasn't that bad!" Luffy tries to cheer you up.

"Well, compared to what happened afterwards..." You recall how you had to travel through the belly of a giant goldfish to leave Little Garden. That was not the way you thought you would be departing. Despite that, you are not sulking because of the trip on Carue's back nor the weird departure. You are just feeling a little sluggish. Sitting alone by the stairs and staring at the ground might have given off the impression that you were upset.

"Don't worry I'm not angry or anything," you say to him. Luffy smiles and gives you a thumbs up, then walks away to play with Usopp.

As soon as Sanji finishes preparing snacks, he walks out the kitchen door, eager to look for the ladies on this ship. Holding a plate in one hand, he swiftly walks down the stairs and is happy to find you so close by. "Would you like some meringues as today's snack?" he asks while presenting you the fiery red desserts.

You take a glance at the plate and chuckle. "An interesting choice of colour."

"I was inspired by your magnificent flames," he says like the charmer he is. He looks at in anticipation for you to taste the treat in which he put a lot of care to make. But rather than seeing a pleased expression, he notices how pale your face is. He quickly puts down the plate and touches your forehead with his, measuring your temperature.

Your vision is blurry and you could hardly grasp your surroundings. Seeing Sanji so close to you makes you wonder what had happened. You open your mouth but no sounds come out.

The feeling of uneasiness showers over him when he feels how cold you are. He touches your cheeks and then your hands, every part of you is alarmingly cold. All he could think of is a way to warm you up as fast as possible.

Sanji picks you up and carries you to the girl's room. He puts you down on the bed and tugs you into the sheets, making sure your whole body is covered. While doing this, he did not even notice Nami who was working on a new map.

"Mind explaining what you are doing right now?" she asks with a raised eyebrow and a fist ready to beat some sense into him.

"Nami-chan! Good that you're here, Y/N isn't feeling well," he hurriedly explains. "Her temperature is weirdly low."

"What? Let me see." She touches your face which is the only part of your body that is visible. "You're right, she is freezing!"

"Do we have any medicine for this?"

"I don't know, I've never seen anything like this before. Could this be a reverse fever?" She taps her foot on the ground, thinking about the possible measures she can take. "Watch over her for a second, I'll discuss it with the others."

And Sanji did exactly that. He could only helplessly observe you. The sight of you shivering under all those blankets fills him with endless worries. He could not stand the thought of you feeling cold, thus he places his warm hand on your forehead, hoping it can make a difference.
