Simon has never been asked out. Not by anyone. Not even the most desperate, nerdy geeks in school will approach him. Simon assumes he's ugly, stupid, undesirable.
And he has no idea exactly how wrong he is.
He's perfect, and no one is brave enough to approach him. He feels like he doesn't deserve anyone, when really, everyone else believes they don't deserve him. He's just too amazing. Kind, gorgeous, and funny, the whole school wants him.
One day, Simon is so frustrated at how everyone turns away when they see him in the halls (of fear he'll look at them and they'll faint) that he vents his feelings and insecurities to his best friend JJ, who listens in surprise, and bursts into laughter after his friend is finished talking through tears.
He tells a disbelieving Simon just how perfect he is, and, finally confident after hearing Simon's side of the story, asks him out.
