"LISTEN TO ME!" shouted your boyfriend of four years, Jake. "HE DOESN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT YOU! HE'S KNOWN ABOUT IT THIS WHOLE TIME AND HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT!"

"I know that's not true!" you shout, being careful with your words. It wasn't long after that that you felt a stinging slap to the face.
You could tell Jake has had enough.

That's when your instincts kick in. You need to get away. Fast. That's when you kick him in a place no human should be kicked in and he falls to the ground.

That's your chance to run away. You run into the next room to find the suitcase you've been hiding for months now. You grasp it in your hands and run out the door.

You know exactly where you're heading. You're heading to Alberta, Edmonton to be exact. You don't know why, you don't want to run into Connor but in Edmonton you'll feel safe. Something about his presence that will make you feel safe.

You hop into your car and start the drive. Looking back on your relationship with Jake, you realize it was a bad idea. This wasn't the first time he had abused you, he abused you for half of your guys' relationship. Yes. Two years. For two years, he had abused you.

Pulling over for a second, you notice there's one more thing you need to do. You realize you should do this in person, but you can't risk getting abused again. You have to do this this way and this way only.

You pull out your phone.

Y/N: we're over. don't even think about this anymore.

Once you finish, you drop your phone in a cup holder and start driving again. This would be a long trip...

When you finally arrive in Edmonton, your stomach is growling and your eyes are drooping. Then one thought crosses your mind.

Where am I going to sleep tonight?

Then this thought crosses your mind.

Ryan's house.

You and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had become friends when Connor was drafted to the Oilers.
You two were really close, but Connor always stayed your best friend. You would of gone to him, but you don't want him to see you like this. You don't want him to see the emotional scars, how you flinched at loud noises, the cuts and bruises.

You pull up to Ryan's house, and you're afraid to go and knock on the door. But you needed him right now, and you fought the feeling to turn back. You hop out of your car and heat to the door. You knock on it, hoping he'll answer it. And your prayers are answered when he does.

"Y/N? What are you doing here?" he asks, and, by now, you're fighting back tears. That's when Ryan notices. "It's him, isn't it?" he asks again, and you nod your head. You don't have the strength to speak, so you stay silent.

Ryan then proceeds to pull you into a hug. "It's okay, Y/N. Come inside." You do what he says, and head into his house. Once you both collapse on his couch, he asks, "Now, what exactly happened?" His voice was calm, yet, thick of his Canadian accent.

"He-h-he a-b-use-d-d-d m-e." You choke on your words. Ryan has a shocked expression on his face. "He what?!" he asks you, anger in his voice. You speak again, "He abused me, Ryan." This time, your words are strong and clear.

"Ohh, Y/N, he's about to back off." Ryan tells you, and you get afraid. Not of him, but you don't want him to hurt Jake, even after what he did to you. "No, Ryan. Connor has already taken care of him," you lied. His expression softened up a bit, but he still looked angry. "You sure? You'll be okay?" he asks. You nod your head.

After awhile of talking about Jake and Ryan making sure you'll be okay, you say, "Ryan, is it okay if I sleep here tonight? I'm really tired."
He responds, "Yeah, of course. Make yourself at home, Y/N/N."

"Thanks Ryan, this is a simple favor but you don't know how much I need this right now." You say, adding a slight chuckle at the end.
He laughs too. You head upstairs and into the guest room. You guess you need this, because as soon as your head hits the pillow, you fall into a deep slumber.

"Okay Ryan, I am going to get some coffee!" I yell at Ry. "Okay, Y/N, you sure you'll be okay?" He asks. "Yes, Ry."

With that you leave. You're heading to Starbucks to get some iced coffee for you and a frappe chino for Ryan.

You decide to walk there, with Starbucks only being 10 minutes away. You were nervous, you didn't want to run into Connor. But, hey, there's not a big chance that'll happen, right? So you decide to take the chance.

You start walking to Starbucks. Edmonton is crowded! Really crowded! You finally manage to reach Starbucks, but you stop dead in your tracks when you see Connor, Leon, Cam and Zack.

You walk into the pretty packed place, trying to hide from them. But, just your luck! Connor spots you just as you walk in. "Hey!" he starts, "Y/N! It's been so long!!" All of the guys smile, and Connor starts to come up to hug you.

But Connor stops dead in his tracks when he sees your face. This was exactly what you were afraid of. Connor seeing the cuts and bruises, Connor seeing the flinching at the slightest things, Connor seeing the emotional scars.
"Y/N/N, what happened?" He asks, concern in his voice.

"Come outside." You mumble, grabbing his wrist and pulling him out. "You promise not to tell anyone?" He nods.

"Connor, don't freak out, but my ex abused me." You tell him, caution in your voice. You know Connor will overreact, he gets way too protective over you.

Anger is on his voice, "Now how long has this been going on?!" You gulp. "Two years," you mumble, keeping the information to yourself.
"What?" Connor asks. "Two years!" You speak up. He pulls you into a hug, looking concerned for you. "Oh, Y/N/N, this wouldn't be going on if-"

"If what?" you interrupt.

"If I would have fought for you!" Connor exclaims.

"Hang on. What did you say?" You ask him.
"Y/N, I've liked you for the longest time now. When I watched Jake pull you away from me, I felt lost. I needed you here."

"Oh, Connor, I never knew you felt this way." You start, "Ohh, and, I've liked you for the longest time too. I thought being with Jake would help me get over you, but the feelings stuck. I couldn't get over you."

And with that, you were pulled into a sweet kiss, one that confesses all of his love for you. You had been waiting for this to happen for years now, and your wish has finally come true.

You know you're safe here in Edmonton. With Connor by your side, you would be unstoppable. Nothing can stop you, not now, not ever. Not even Jake.
