22. Start Acting Like A Brother
A throat cleared behind me and I stepped away from Ace, making his hand fall from my hair.
"I think the time is safer than any to say," She pauses dramatically, "I was only in your room because he-" She points at Ace over my shoulder, "Told me to drop something off there."
I frowned, "What?"
"It was a-" She stopped abruptly, looking over my shoulder at Ace again, "You'll find out when you see it." She mutters. She looks back up at me, "And I'd appreciate it if I wasn't referred to as a toy." She says, staring at me. I stared back at her blankly, "Well?" She raises her eyebrows.
I mimicked the action, "Well, what?"
"This is usually where people apologize..." She hints.
"Is it?" I feigned confusion. I nod, "Huh."
I could hear Ace trying to stifle his laughter behind me.
"I see why he was so stuck on you." She says with narrowed eyes.
"Trust me, she was never this mean," Ace says, as of I'm not standing right in front of him, "She's always been mean, just not like this."
She looks over my shoulder at Ace, "That's hard to believe."
"As you both continue to converse like I'm not standing right here. I'll go make myself useful somewhere else." I voiced my thoughts, turning toward the exit.
"No," Ace laughed softly as he took my hand, "Sorry. Don't go."
I tried to pull my hand from his but he tightened his hold, "I'm sorry but I have a certain Blue Eyed fellow I need to see. At the moment he's kind of top priority." I add the last sentence in hopes that I'd get a response out of him along with it being totally true.
I did. His hand gripped mine tighter and his jaw clenched.
"Are you trying to get Damian killed?"
I frowned at her, "Who?"
She gaped at me, "You two have been up under each other since you've been here and you don't even know his name!" She exclaims.
Realization dawned on me and I nodded slowly, "Ooohhh," I drawl, "Now I understand. I call him Blue Eyes. I prefer that name." I tell her.
"I prefer Damian." She snaps.
I raise an eyebrow, "You prefer?" I fought back a smirk, "Is there something I should know?" I tease.
Her cheeks reddened and she looked down, hiding her face with her hair, "I'm leaving." She squares her shoulders and starts to leave.
When the office doors shut heavily behind her, I turned to Ace, staring at him expectantly.
He scoffs with a laugh, "Does it matter?"
"To me." I respond.
"Do you like him?" He asks suddenly.

Fantasy"I don't want you either." I murmur, knowing he'd hear me. He did, and his body tensed, his hands balling at his sides. Of course, I was lying and of course I felt the same feeling in my chest like a knife stabbing at my heart. I knew, Dakoda knew...
