One year had passed since I came into the Royal College of Music and I had never regretted it. School work and activities kept me real busy everyday – lectures, tutorials, rehearsals, practices and performances. My body literally came alive as I performed once again on stage with the orchestras.

Colin and I had many common classes and we even worked together as project mates. We helped each other out in notes taking and homework, as well as continued with our debates on the many subjects and topics we came to love.

Every Sunday, we would faithfully attend the same church. I had followed him to the Anglican church and we were part of the young adults’ bible study group as well as the choir.

On my nineteenth birthday, he finally plucked up the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend.

It had been a long year for me. I would be lying if I said that I was not following news on One Direction. There was way too many news on them, especially if some of my classmates were One Direction’s fans as well. The boys kept me updated as well. Liam and Harry would send a postcard or two, while Niall continued to twit me non-stop. It turned out that he had got himself attached along the way. Danielle and Eleanor would also drop by occasionally for a cup of coffee whenever they were back in town.

Zayn. My heart still hurt whenever I heard his name. The last I heard was Zayn had hitched up with an old friend from X-Factor – Perrie Edwards. It was all for the better. I would never be good enough for him. Perhaps when I grew older, I would look back and mused to my kids that I had dated Zayn Malik – one of England’s heartthrob.

As we moved into our second year, Colin and I were both venturing into our majors. Shared classes became lesser and work became tougher. Colin had opted for composing and education while I decided to have a go at conducting. Even though we saw each other lesser, we would still try to make time for meals.

My life was finally back to normal.

I was on my way to evening rehearsal when my phone rang.

“Jo, are you on your way yet?” Clarissa, my fellow percussion mate asked. I met Clarissa when I first came for audition to RCM and now she had became my best buddy in campus, apart from Colin.

“Yes, I’m about to reach.”

“Okay, I’ll set up for you first.”

“Thanks.”

I had exactly six minutes to get into the rehearsal room before Maestro would arrive. It would not be good if I arrived later than him.

As I raced down the corridor, I could see the familiar brown door ahead of me. Just as I was about to push open the door, my phone rang again.

“Ris, I’m just outside,” I panted.

“Jo?” A strangely familiar voice greeted me instead.
