One Last Lie

One Last time,

One last lie,

she promised,

staring into those empty orbs.

Her lips curved,

Her eyes twinkled,

Another mask is served,

Before she knew it the corners of her eyes wrinkled.

Her lips quivered,

Her eyes filled with tears,

Another mask is broken,

At least her message was delivered.

The screen lit up again,

those dreaded words filling her vision.

She felt like she was imprisoned,

Every inch of her screaming with pain.

Her fingers flew over the keyboard,

repeating her previous statement,

pausing before hitting

send.

One last time,

One last lie

She promised

Staring at those broken brown orbs.

She closed the door,

avoiding her reflection,

she found everything a chore,

especially maintaining perfection.

When she caught her eye

a tear rolled down her cheek

mocking her, saying that

you're weak.

She let the tears flow

before gathering herself up

staring at her hollow self

wondering what the hell happened

One last time

One last lie

She promised

As she stepped away into the cold water.

She lied in bed

facing the ceiling

wondering what she did wrong

where did it all go wrong?

Her fingers itched to type another message

but it was clear

that she only wanted her as a friend

almost as though labels

could be ripped

in half.
