Chapter 32

Out of the corner of my eye I watched as Cane partially shifted and his enforcers gripped their guns. What came out of the well was a Zombie.

"Shit, that's one of my missing wolves. David, blow his brains out."

David didn't ask questions and as soon as he could get a steady shot on the shambling dead he fired a bullet through his brain. It was a lot less messy than when Sloane and I had a Zombie Party in our living room.

"How many wolves of yours went missing," I asked as I saw two more pairs of hands pulling themselves out of the damn thing again.

"In total 14. There's no rhyme or reason to the numbers this person is choosing from," he grumbled the last in a disgruntled manner.

Julian had joined David in destroying the entire head of the Zombies. One simple bullet wasn't going to destroy their cognitive function. Black ooze and brain matter exploded out of the back of their skulls but they continued to move until the top half of their heads were completely destroyed. Sloane had trotted into the backyard and whistled at the sight.

"Would you look at that, more fucking Zombies. My only question is how in the fuck are they raising the damn dead? Is their a Necromancer? Fuck."

After our brush with the Shadowmancer I think all of us were done with those who dealt with the dead in any form.

When Sloane had arrived it was almost as if she brought the night along with her as the fireball in the sky descended, subjecting us to only the light caress of the moonlight. This made Zombies climbing out of a well and having their brains spattering across the dead grass all the more disturbing.

"Why are they coming out of the Well though," I heard Sloane mumble to herself with a scrunched up forehead, "They could just claw their way through the well, into the ground, and drag themselves out underneath us.."

Celise jumped onto my feet once she heard that and I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"Stop messing around, Sloane."

"Whaaaaaat," she whined, "I was being dead serious, Cece."

"Har Har, very punny. Idiot," Celise grumbled from her position. I'd placed my back to the wolves shooting at the Zombies in order to protect Celise from any splattered body parts.

Sloane begun to walk towards the Well and I'd have tried stopping her had I not been holding my unmarked Mate in my arms. It had started off as merely being horny around her but as we spent more time together I began to realize I could vaguely pick up on her emotions; similar to how Sloane and I have a link.

She had a point though about the Zombies not digging their way through the ground instead of climbing straight up.

When one person's gun clicked empty, the other took over while they reloaded. Finally after what felt like forever the shooting stopped. I'd not realized that Sloane had cast a silencing spell in order to not attract attention to us but since the guns had been going off well before she arrived, I wasn't surprised to hear police sirens heading this way.

Since no one checked the cause for all the noise, it would be easier for us to turn the police away.

"There doesn't seem to be any more that are going to climb out," spoke up the blonde David as he begun to slowly walk towards the Well.

"From the looks of the bodies, our 14 missing wolves were among them," Julian spoke up from his opposite side as he slowly walked from another angle.

"There's still these 16 unknown zombies that popped out along with ours." Cane seemed to be looking at the fallen bodies for clues. I wasn't really sure what he expected though because they were all nude and had their faces blown off.

"Well earlier when I was doing the one man show replay of a football run, I'm sure there was more than just 14 wolves trying to eat me. This damn 'light' the Fire Coven spoke about that I apparently exude is becoming too fucking pesky. Like cat nip but for wolves. Wolf nip? Nah, that sounds like a metaphor for bitch nipples and then it just reminds me of your strip clubs." I watched Sloane visibly shudder.

I found it mildly amusing that we were having a conversation with 'more dead' zombies and police almost here.

"Sloane can you take care of the cops? I'm more concerned on how that many bodies fit inside this damn well," Cane spoke up as he watched his enforcers finally reach the thing in question.

"Sure, no problemo."

"Alpha, it's a portal."

Fudge. That didn't usually bode well when a portal was placed in the middle of unprotected area. With that thought I placed Celise down and begun to look around trying to find a guardian who watched over this place. No matter what, there should be someone who's linked to the outside of it.

Celise stayed where I put her, quietly trying to wrap her mind around the gore fest exploded across the deadened grass.

I made my way back to the boarded house trying to listen for any noises. At this point I was just trying to hear any heartbeats because with the amount of noise we'd been making the guardian should've shown up.

A very weak sound came from further along the side of the house so I made my way through knee high weeds that seemed to cling to my pants as I brushed past them. I'm sure I stepped in all sorts of fecal matter as I finally found a small break in a wood board. I wouldn't fit so I simply gripped the hole and pulled, dislodging it completely from the window.

Since it was a bit above my hip I would need to climb in but the top was a little low so it would be a tight squeeze. It took a bit of maneuvering and I felt magic begin to rise from the front yard. Sloane must be casting her magic on the Police Officers. The whole house was dark and my eyes needed to adjust to not having the stars and moon for light. In the corner I found what I was looking for; a male gremlin by the looks of it. All gremlins looked similar aside from the sexual organs made visible.

My feet quickly carried me over to him and I knelt down next to him and asked, "Can you hear me? Who or what did this to you?"

He was too far gone at this point for healing. Fae creatures, especially those of the weaker variety like the gremlins, once severely injured will lose the will to live and begin to fade. It didn't matter about whether you had healing magic or not.

The gremlin wheezed for breath, "Fa..e ... ma..le..."

As expected, it really was a Fae doing the killings. "Do you know where he went?"

"..Ne..v..err....le..f...t," he finished with his last breath and my heart stuttered as I crouched in defense to look around trying to figure out if his words held truth.
I couldn't feel or sense anything but I wasn't completely sure so I hurriedly jumped out of the window. Sloane was just coming around from the other side of the house whistling while her arms were behind her head and Cane with his men inspecting the well.

A flash of movement from the roof drew my attention and I watched a too thin, too tall man move his head in my direction in a slow motion before smiling with a mouth filled with sharp pointed metal capped teeth. Before I could shout a warning he broke his body down into particles and disappeared into the wind.

"Watch-"

My voice just yelled as the long black hair of the Dark Fae appeared in my left field of vision.. right next to Celise who still stood waiting. It was much like slow motion as I felt Sloane's terror and anger, Cane turned and begun to shift but everything seemed to slow down or maybe speed up because as we all begun to run towards the Dark Fae he shoved a clawed hand through Celise's back right near her heart before disappearing again.

Celise's eyes opened wide as she looked down before coughing up blood and crumpling to the ground. I felt the life drain from her and my wolf howled in anguish. That piece of us that would complete us, the part that was ours to make us whole had been ripped from us. The pain was excruciating and I felt it all flood my system before my body refused to continue on. I fell to the ground alongside my unclaimed mate and shut my eyes.

'What is a world without her..'

A/N: Wahhhh! Don't hate me. OTL
