Meathead Monologue

we are not alone, just lonely

step by step,
i am learning how to live on my own.
i am learning that i do not need crutches,
i can walk on my own.
i don't need someone to lean on.
though, it is so tough for someone like me,
someone who loves unreasonably,
to realize this.
but step by step,
i will understand that people can be
alone
and not be lonely.
because i am currently alone,
but the air around me is warm
and it's inviting,
and i don't think i would trade it for
a pair of arms to wrap me in.
my surroundings tell me that i am safe,
safer than i would ever be
in someone's love sick grasp.
so i will sit alone
and learn to not be
lonely.
then maybe, once i learn a thing or two
about living,
i can teach you.
and we can teach everyone.
but first, step by step,
i will learn that i am just as good
as i ever will be,
than when i have a hand to hold.
