Oliver's POV

I glared at Hannah as I stood up, not even bothering to hide my disgust. I approached the kitchen and opened the closed doors, Veronica stood with her back to me; staring out the window at the dark night. "V?" I questioned, slowly walking over to her. She sighed deeply and rested her back into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her waist. "I just want to be good enough you know?" She began after several minutes of comfortable silence.

"You are babe." I consoled but she shook her head

"I'm really not, my own daughter would prefer another woman to be her mum and I can't blame her because I'm the stranger, she barely recognises me Oliver and that's my fault."

I kissed her shoulder "She just needs time, you're back for good so she'll get used to you V, she's a toddler and she really doesn't understand." I explained

Veronica hesitated and I could see her thinking about what I said "You're right, I'm not going to feel sorry for myself anymore, I need to change things and I'm ready to start again." V declared and I grinned

"That's my girl."

---------------------------------------

The night came to an end and everyone decided to go home "Thanks for a great night." My parents complimented Veronica and I as they were the last out of the door. Lee and Vegan had already gone to bed leaving us to clear everything away. Veronica and I turned around and looked at the mess, glasses were left all around the room as well as the plates and dirty dishes that filled the kitchen and the dining room, Ashley and Alex were sat on the floor playing some game, happily entertained but almost falling asleep. "I really can't be bothered." I announced, assessing the mess and then looking at V who yawned and nodded her head in agreement. "We'll do it tomorrow."

We laughed at our procrastination and picked up the dozing toddlers, carrying them upstairs and into our room. I stripped down into some shorts and tossed V my shirt which she slipped on, we climbed into bed silently making sure we didn't wake the kids up. "She looks so much like you V." I admired at my daughter

"Do you think so?"

I nodded, it was true. Alex had light blue eyes that sparkled innocently but she had my brown curly hair so I guess she looked like both of us in a way.

"Oli." V whispered

"Yeah?"

"Have you heard anything from Tom over the years?" She asked and my heart sunk a little

"No...I think my parents have though." I shrugged

"What makes you say that?"

"I'm not sure, just a guess really but they don't get upset when he's mentioned so I gather he's been in touch with them, it isn't surprising because they've always been close." I explained

"He's always been close to you too?"

I nodded "But I'm the last person he'd get in touch with, he probably thinks I'm mad at him."

"And are you?"

"I wouldn't say mad, I'm disappointed, what about you?" I questioned, lifting my gaze up to Veronica's face who now had her eyes closed
